A dozen large Sucker Minnows, a scoop of fatheads, 2 dozen small sucker minnows, and a night on the Red River fishing through the ice from 5pm to 10pm.

Intro, what kind of lure retriever do you use?

At Bob Prost's fishing seminars he used to demostrate how to use any $5.00 long telescopic pan fishing rod to rettrirve things like  Shad Raps in places like rocks in the tailrace, etc.   When I was young and regularly dived the tailrace you could pick up cranks from the rocks - hundreds of them - by floating by in the current and picking up cranks like ornaments from a Xmas tree!    Never used Propst's trick, but should have.

Its a lead green fish with chains hanging from it and a cord attached. I have a little wooden doll that I spool the cord on. It makes it alot easier. I used to see them on the shelf and think what a gimmick until one day I got into a good walleye bite on cranks in flooded timber and lost about $100 dollars worth of cranks. Figured for $6 bucks I might as well give it a try. The thing worked wonders. Its a very very rare day that I can't get a lure back with one. In over ten years of using it I'll bet there hasn't been 5 lures that I haven't been able to save. In strong current it can be a little tricky but for lake situations its an excellent tool.  I have retreived reef runners in over 20 ft of water with it.

The pan fish rod idea sounds like a good idea. Bass Pro Shops has a telescoping lure retriever that I have thought about buying but the reviews weren't that great. They say its cheaply made and the end that is supposed to hook your lure falls off easily.
