I think Luveyes will have a good one...it involves an unusual way to inspect the hull of a boat, a windy day and a sandbar.

Not sure if the day one of the DWC could be beat.  Although, the wind was calm so it might not have been too bad.  The Last Chance during it's first year was a miserable son-of-a-gun with 40 plus mph winds in Beulah country, September fishing and cold chilly fall rain all day long.  Didn't catch a fish.  In fact, I think three teams out of 20 or so caught more than 2 fish.  Can't remember though.  It was just miserable.

My most miserable outing was ice fishing at Sweet Briar Dam.   I had just started setting up and drilling some holes.  All of a sudden some high wind gusts popped up and it started sliding my ice tarp away from my location.

I immediately dropped the auger and jumped on the tarp/hut (door was unzipped, so it made like an umbrella).  The wind got even stronger, yet, and was taking me WITH the tarp/hut across the extremely smooth ice (no snow cover).  My grain shovel was sliding along side the hut on its own azimuth.

With a slim chance of luck my foot (sticking out the doorway) caught one of my outlying holes.  I held my foot in place until I could grasp the sides of the flooring and secure the hut.  It didn't take me long to decide "the hell with this" and drop the poles and pack up the gear.

My clothing was wet from the water on top of the ice.  I thought for sure that I'd be sitting on the east end of the lake, meanwhile my truck would be sitting on the west end just south of the cattails.

After loading up my gear I drove up to I-94 and did a u-turn to come around and park at the scenic view parkade. This was necessary so I could climb down through the tree line and ravine to the ice's edge to recover my grain shovel.

Now...... if it's over 20mph wind, I'll just prefer to sit in my recliner and watch the Outdoor Channel (with fireplace on)!!

van hook at 7 am.  wind came up to 25mph.  broke a rod, then the drift chute broke the steel loop off the front of the boat.  wind came up to 40, waves got BIG, swamped the boat in the bottom of a trough as the next wave rolled over us, ground the prop into the gravel at the bottom of the next trough.  I was weearing a toddler sized life vest.  beached the boat and a wave rolled over the back and filled it with water.  landed the boat and went to Hiddenwood lake to escape the waves.

Hiddenwood lake 11am (still havn't caught a thing) put the boat in the water, park the truck, jump off the dock into the back of the boat into ankle deep water.  buddy forgot to put the plug in.  then the boat wont start. (3rd time water has been knee deep in the boat today) 6 hours of no fish on hiddenwood, someone gets the bright idea to go to audubon.

Lake Audubon 5pm (still no fish) troll around bored for a couple hours decide to head home...boat wont start! half hour after screwing with the motor I decide I'm gonna jump in and tow is to a nearby island before the wind carries us too far from the ramp.  right before I get in the water, my buddy says "Oops!", he forgot to unscrew the breather valve on the gas tank.  unscrews it, motor starts, homeward bound.

Highway 83 8:00 pm (never caught a fish) as I'm laying my head back in the passenger seat gazing aimlessly at my rearview mirror I see chunks of metal tumbling down the shoulder of the road, as I look at my buddy I see a small tire rolling down the median of the highway, then it jumps the approach, back accross both lanes and into a slough.  the wheel came completely off the axle at 70mph.  the axle is ground in half and now we sit on the shoulder waiting for a flatbed.  meanwhile my buddy has to wade through stinky black rotten slough crud to retrieve the tire. then a  storm comes while we're waiting and it hails.  wrecker shows up around 11pm, loads the boat and we head for minot then the wrecker gets struck by lightning and shuts down.  get the wrecker started get to my buddies house and now the boat trailer gets jammed up on the flatbed, so that takes a couple more hours to get loose.  when the wrecker leaves we realize it cracked by buddies brother's newly poured driveway.

got home soaking wet at 3am and we didn't fish together again for over 3 years.

I have the two guys that were with me to back it up, and probably add some stuff I forgot, including his brother who's driveway had to get re-poured.

that day cost around $5,000 with no fish to show for it.

The "worst" outing for me while fishing occured on Devils Lake. I had gone out to fish after work in early August of 2009. It was a picture perfect day, very light breeze of around 5-6mph, temps in the mid 70's.  I made it out to a spot on the main bay and was fishing slips. Walleyes were just biting like crazy, ended up with a limit by 7 that evening.

Navigated the boat back to the Lakewood boat ramp, backed the pickup down into the wonderful smelling late season green waters of Devils Lake. Hopped back into the boat and drove onto the bunk trailer. As I was going up to the bow to hook up the strap to the metal eye, I felt a slight nudge, looked up to see the wheels on my pickup sliding down the ramp on top of the moss/algae that had collected on the concrete ramp.

I was like WTF, jumped out of the boat and into my pickup, the thing was in 4wd, I canned the throttle, could feel all the wheels turning but kept going backwards, all of a sudden the motor shut off and I looked out my window and water was up to the door handles of the Silverado. I crawled out the window and on to the roof, jumped back on to the boat and proceeded to watch the pickup float for about 5 minutes and then sink in about 7 feet of water.

My awesome night of fishing had just done a total 180 on me.

I know that feeling Walleye, u r not alone. Ok, well, I don't really know that feeling but I have come close to that. I just never lost my truck.
When I have a bad day, or think i have had a bad day, I go to youtube and watch fishing bloopers. Always cheers me up. Besides any day you can get off the water still alive, it was still better than working.

Have a few stories, not near as "miserable" as the other ones but miserable none the less.

My most miserable trip would probably be out shore fishing for pike after the shorelines broke up (ice) on Lake Sak about five years ago. There were four of us that went out, and the spot we fished at was a pretty good hike from where the vehicles were parked.

Two of my buddies didnt have gear tied up yet, so they stayed back to tie up before they made the hike. Me and my other buddy decided to start the journey.

I thought that it would be a good idea to see if I could cross the "mud" to get to the spot instead of walkin a long long ways to get around it. BAD IDEA. I made it several yards into the mud just fine and then sank almost up to both my knees and fell forward!

Had gear in both hands that got covered in mud, lost both my shoes, and had mud all over me. Actually pretty damn funny now that I think about it. When I got home I just took the hose to everything!

Anyways that crap was like quicksand actually was kind of scary right away.  Of course everyone fishing in the same area had a good laugh!! Luckily I always bring extra clothes just for that reason and called my other buddies who were still behind to bring my extra clothes and shoes. Never did catch a pike that day either.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The worst day on a boat would have been on skunk bay on Lake Sak. Was a beautiful calm day on the boat on the 3rd of July. Fishing was pretty tough in the morning actually because the water was so calm.

About 2-3 o'clock the wind picked up to about 10-15 mph, just enough to give a little good ol walleye chop. Fishing started to pick up, and fished for a few hours catching some pretty nice eyes. Unfortunately Storm was moving in from the south and wind picked up to about 30-35+ mph in a matter of minutes. We decided to pull lines and head back.

There were four of us in a 16ft boat with a 40 hp. Had to go directly in to wind to get back to boat ramp. Took us half an hour to get to the other side of the bay to get to ramp when it would normally take a few minutes. Lots of other boats were strugglin as well. Scariest boat ride ever, I had to ride the throttle with each wave. Not fun, everyone got completely soaked, had to run bilge pump the entire time. We all were happy to get on dry ground after that trip!

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed

There are hundreds of millions of gun owners in this country, and not one of them will have an accident today. The only misuse of guns comes in environments where there are drugs, alcohol, bad parents, and undisciplined children. Period. - Unlce Ted

ice... me and a buddy sending my dad's ice fishing vehicle to the bottom of pelican b4 we ever had a chance to drill a hole and the next 8 hours getting it out.

water... fishing audobon one evening in my canoe w/ my dogs just after ice out when i lived in minot about 10 years ago.  when i headed back to shore, the ice had blow in making it impossible to get to the ramp.  trolling motor battery died and it was a long mile or two paddle against the wind followed by another mile or two walk back to the truck on some pretty rough ground.  neither me nor my wet dogs were dressed appropriately.  twas one of only a handful of times i'd felt a very strong desire to dial 911 because i feared for my safety.

I went fishing in late November back in 2003 on the river, temp was in the high teens and the river was nearing its final days of open water fishing. I docked at the rifle range, the only trailer there.  Made her down to the barrels and hit a bar.  With the high five prop I have no reverse power and I was buried good.  I got out and tried to push off and I had no chance, and the water was not warm.  I put it in reverse, got out and pushed it off.   The boat took off and I was able to grab the head of the bowmount motor and have the boat drag me in a large circle backwards until it got beached again, but backwards.   I drug my frozed arse up into the boat and drove very slowly back to the ramp.  My legs and arms werent working that well and all my clothes where frozen.  I dragged my butt up the rocks at the range and warmed up for at least 30 minutes before I was able to back the trailer down.

Being 330 pounds at the time I easily should have drowned that afternoon, or at least froze to death on the way back.
