THERE IS GROWING CONCERN THAT A MAJOR WINTER STORM COULD DEVELOP LATE
TUESDAY NIGHT AND CONTINUE INTO THANKSGIVING MORNING. THE LATEST
FORECAST MODELS ARE IN GOOD AGREEMENT THAT HEAVY SNOW IS POSSIBLE
BEGINNING TUESDAY EVENING IN WESTERN NORTH DAKOTA...THEN SPREADING
ACROSS THE REST OF CENTRAL NORTH DAKOTA TUESDAY NIGHT. THE HEAVY
SNOW COULD RESULT IN SEVERAL INCHES OF SNOWFALL THROUGH WEDNESDAY
NIGHT. IN ADDITION...STRONG NORTHWEST WINDS ARE FORECAST TO DEVELOP
WEDNESDAY NIGHT INTO THANKSGIVING DAY MORNING WITH POSSIBLE BLIZZARD
LIKE CONDITIONS.

Tallking about 4" - 10" of new snow, but they
are not certain who will get the most.  Right now
it looks like the western part and then moving
in the central part on Wed.  I don't think they
know yet.  I was in the Killdeer area today, there
is alot of snow, much more than I thought.  Not
real easy getting around.

It gets better every hour.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT LATE THIS SUNDAY NIGHT
THROUGH MONDAY. SNOW WILL DEVELOP AGAIN TONIGHT...BEGINNING OVER
SOUTHWEST NORTH DAKOTA AND SPREAD EAST THROUGH MONDAY AFTERNOON.
THE HEAVIEST SNOW WILL BE CONFINED TO SOUTH OF THE I94 CORRIDOR
WHERE 3 TO 4 INCHES OF SNOW IS EXPECTED

IN ADDITION...STRONG NORTHWEST WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO
DEVELOP WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND CONTINUE INTO THURSDAY...BRINGING THE
POTENTIAL FOR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND
CONTINUING DURING THE DAY ON THANKSGIVING. TEMPERATURES DURING
THIS TIME PERIOD SHOULD BE ZERO TO 15 ABOVE DURING THE
DAYTIME...AND ZERO TO 10 BELOW AT NIGHT. THESE TEMPERATURES
COMBINED WITH THE STRONG NORTHWEST WINDS WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND
THANKSGIVING DAY WILL CAUSE WIND CHILLS OF 15 BELOW TO 30 BELOW
ZERO.

So when are we supposed to get the snow? Sunday and Monday or Tuesday and Wednesday? If your last post is an update of your first one it looks like they determined the snow will start and end a day or two sooner?

Yeah, I just checked the report. 7-14 more inches total by Thanksgiving. This winter is already shaping up to be nice and shitty.

I'll take the blame for this.  Told the wife I didn't need that 5 gallons of gas (leftover from the grass cutting days of just a few weeks ago) in the garage and I would put it in her car so it didn't go to waste.

Crap.  Now I gotta go get some gas for the snowblower.

I had the same theory. Get tracks and hopefully don't need them. I hope we don't get too much on  the ice, don't need to insulate that this early in the game.

I used what was left for the lawnmower and put in in the snowblower.

Since I read the weather on Sunday at 4:30 am they haven't changed one bit on when it is expected.  According to what I've read and still read it starts Tuesday night (or early Wednesday morning).  Goes through Thanksgiving Day if we are lucky.  Could be an extended period of snow but that's where the question mark on who gets how much snow.  It depends how this system sets itself up.

I think some are confusing two systems.  Earlier on Sunday they said last night and today a system was expected south of I-94.  Judging by the radar it setup just like they thought.  3-7 inches for some and for the very unlucky 6-12.  I believe that is more toward the Oakes country.

Bottom-line, their prediction of colder than average temps for November and rather stormy weather seems to be setting itself up quite nicely...or not nicely.  Like always, predicting out storms in a four to seven day advance is tricky.  Someone in the state is not going to like the next few days.  Our wildlife definitely are not going to like winter if this is indeed just the beginning.  I can't remember what the extended outlook for December was but lets hope it isn't too bad.  Otherwise, I think we'll see a drop in deer tags again.  Oh how we forget winter!

On the plus side, if we get a lot of snow early on it may insulate the ground enough so we don't get >30 inches of frost depth.

That may help us again next spring as it did this year.  So bring on the snow early and insulate that ground.

I completely agree with you Tim. The forecast may not be totally accurate as to where the snow piles up but this is not a good start to winter. We were hunting Saturday and it was not much fun washing the deer off out in the yard. I believe that the outlook for December is for average temps and possibly a bit wetter.
