In your opinion, which manufacturing company makes the most accurate bolt-action centerfire hunting rifle? Winchester, Remington, Tika, Browning, Ruger, Weatherby, Kimber, Savage, ect. I'm just interested in what you think.

Sako, next up,, A heavy barreled Savage with accutrigger in .308 will shoot 155 scenars in the 2's and 3's,, pretty fine for a cheap Savage

Any company as long as it is the first gone off the line with a new bit. Most companies use the same bit to do the rifling on the inside of the barrel on X number of guns. The first one with that new bit is going to be the most accurate and then the last one that gets rifled out is going to be the least accurate. I'm sure different companies have different guidelines as to how this is done but for most production rifles that is the process.

I shoot a 30-06 remington rifle, my dad shoots a 25-06 remington, and both are damn accurate

IMO most rifles are capable of better accuracy than their owners are. Brand is far less important than practice.

I tend to agree, upper end Remingtons have shot superbly for me. Both my BDL 25-06 and my 7mm-UM Sendero are tackdrivers. and have perfromed consistantly for years.

Clay is absolutely correct! The rifle is almost always far more accurate than the shooter, especailly in hunting conditions!

Owned a few different brands, savage 308 tactical, Bushmaster 308 carbine, Winchester 7mm. Shot a Tikka 308, I now own three remington 700's, 243, 7mm, 308 tactical. All are the straightest shooters I've experinced. 243 and 7mm I use for hunting and arn't quite sub-moa, 308 tactical is a tac-driver, off a rest i've kept my groups with 1 moa, next to the remingtons I found Tikka to be an awsome rifle as well, plan on getting one eventually. Not disrespecting any of the others, Remingtons just worked best for me. Ammo is a huge factor as well in accuracy, Remingtons are common enough to find anything you want to know about accuracy for.

I firmly agree most rifles have potential for accuracy far beyond the average hunter in field conditions. So, the next question is-- what if you held down a rifle in some kind of rifle rest-- which brand would shoot the best? Sounds like a project for Guns & Ammo.

The best shooters routinely outshoot machine rests. If there were a proveable and repeatable answer to this question we'd already know it.

The newsworthyness of Guns and Ammo rivals that of the Nat'l Enquirer. When the Sako 85 was being introduced one of the writers tested one, couldn't get better than 2" @ 100yds and used the word accurate in the same paragraph as that rifle. They are but pimps for their advertisers.

Product endorsements of the sort in Guns and Ammo, among others oughta be earned not purchased. But in todays world if a writer slams a product and calls a POS for POS he/she doesn't get to do any more product reviews and they're essentially done in that industry.

This moment is a paradox, it's the oldest you've ever been as well as the youngest you'll ever be.

agree with Horsager, every rifle has it's differences, just like every shooter does, I believe shooting off sandbags greatly improves accuracy from bipod alone, but regularly practice with bipod, reason being, am I going to carry around a sandbag while in the field. So I might be able to hold a sum-moa group off a bag, but the challenge comes as, can I do it off a bipod consistantly as well. also agree with 3x, every gun does have the potential for "better" accuracy, but I've found out of the box accuracy with no upgrades came best from the upper end remingtons.

If Just practice was all that it took,, Why is it a Serious rifleman will have his trigger tweaked or replaced,, he will go through many combinations of handloads for accuracy and performance or at least try which relates to spend cash on several factory loads to find something he feels comfortable with,, I wonder what Accuracy really means to some of the posters,, minute of pumpkin,a rock in the field, thats close enough! not trying to ruffle feathers,, just that the original poster asked a quetion, not a theory on who can shoot better but what rifle would be the most accurate out of the box, I have at least 15 remington bolt rifles and have tweaked them all a bit,, law suit trigers have just made an ugly ol savage with aan Accutrigger Very hard to beat for Accuracy,, just my way of thinking,,

I also agree that a heavy barreled Savage with accutrigger is the best. If you reload your own shells that is also going to help with your accuracy. With the savage heavy barrel .243 I can punch hole on hole accuracy. Just my opinion. Only down fall is the gun gets pretty heavy to hump around.

For the guys that tout one brand over another? I ask how many new out of the box rifles of various makes and manufacture have you had?

I ask this because as Clay points out most rifles are capable of shooting much better than most people ever can shoot them!

I have owned 6 different rifles in 4 different Mfg in various calibers. None where bad out of the box, each one needed some TLC adjustments to bring them to the level I wanted. Not one did not perform well beyond my shooting skills especially as range extended.

I loved the Win Model 70, I dislike the Rem 700, but neither rifle was superior over the other when punching holes.

My wife has a Ruger that is very good, and I would say is the most accurate of all the rifles we own. Will shoot just about any grain bullet or any reload with very little change. My Win and Rem are fickle on reloads.

In my lifetime I have seen fence row to fence row farming and the return of CRP and game to the landscape. Now we face again the prosepect of fence row to fence row again! Sportsman are our own worst enemy in that we fail to look forward and focus to much on the now!

I shoot quite a few remingtons but normally have to do a certain amount of tweaking or go as far a putting an after factory barrel on.Ive also some Coopers which you may want to consider as you already know you have their 1/2 inch accuracy warranty with no extra expense involved or you can send it back? This is not to say you cannot achieve the same accuracy with a Savage from your local Walmart just as well but there is no quarantee.Theres lots of tack drivers out there but in general a accuracy warranty will cost more. Some people enjoy tweaking them and others would prefer to mount a scope and enjoy knowing the accuracy is going to be there.Either way its lots of fun.

I've owned and/or shot extensively Winchester, Remington, Weatherby/Howa, Sako, Tikka, Kimber or Oregon, Kimber of America, Cooper, Interarms, Browning, Ruger, Steyr, Colt, DPMS, Bushmaster, and probably some others. I can't say conclusively that one will be consistantly better than the rest.

Some Interarms are Howa 1500's, others are ?CZ? Mausers, there may be more as well but those are the two that come to mind immediately. I don't think that Interarms ever actually manufactured a rifle of their own, to my knowledge they were just an importer.
