The rut has started when you see something with horns on the back of something without horns!

Sorry just being a smart___! It's monday and I am still on my first cup of coffee.

It is around the corner.  Another three weeks and we'll be in the middle of it through the last weekend of deer season.

I was in my tree stand on Sunday and saw a couple of scrapes but nothing major.. I believe the pre rut should be going on.. For what I read the rut is going to be later but the best time I found is between the 13-21st of Nov.
When all you have with you, is your bow, all your problems start to look more and more like targets.

tuff chick is correct. all predictions are for a late rut this year the way the moon phase works out. seen quite a few scrapes and rubs already so get in the field and be in the right spot at the right time. captain i bow hunt during rifle and muzzy season, wear orange. i usually see more deer during gun season with all the people pushing them around
cant drink all day unless you start in the morning.

A good formula to figure the peak of the rut is to find the date of the first full moon after Halloween and then take the next 48 hr period after that date.

If it's anywhere near Bismarck, I'll go after him with the bow. Otherwise my gun tag is for 2F1.

Hunted last night. Saw more activity than I've ever seen. Saw a 150ish absolutely dogging a doe. This is thick river bottom so it's hard to see a complete show, but would catch glimpses. Saw 130 with does, definately following but nothing hard core. Saw few smaller bucks that were also following does. This was all from 2 to 1 hour before dark. 20 minutes before dark I could see a big buck working a scrape, then moved onto two others. He came out about 50 yards from me, somewhere in the 160 to 170 range. The two big guys I was able to see both making scrapes, and maybe a third deer in that range, making a scrape. The smaller bucks basically paid them no attention. Not sure what was going on last night as it is early, possibly a doe in heat.

Pre-rut is on!  I was out last Friday and didn't see much activity.  Saw a ton of activity this morning, but no shots. Couldn't believe all the rubs and scrapes that showed up since last Friday.  Definitely getting territorial.  I did see two button bucks stand off against each other about 10 yards from me.  Pretty sweet.  The got all puffed up,ears back and everything!  Gonna try breaking out a buck decoy next week to get the big boy out of hiding.
Just a nice red river cat.

Nuh ah.  You are wrong.

On another note...

I see colder temps are hinted for around Halloween.  Not a factor as far as biology goes with the rut but it helps with making rut more visible for us humans.

Ive been keeping records for the last ten years. I dont put a whole lot of stock in "rut predictions" when compared to what the deer have told me the last decade.

Pre-rut....Oct 25th-Nov 6th.

Rut.......Nov 6th-20th peaking around the 11th-13th.
Post-rut....Nov 20th-28th.

Set your watch to it.
