Whats the word on the eelpout tourney at van hook

Havent had a ling wrap my arm in a long time. I heard something about a yearly tourney at Van hook in Feb?

I have never heard of any eelpout tournament. There is an ice tourney, however. I do believe one of the prizes goes to the biggest ling. Check out the news release on the home page for more information.

If anyone from the Bismarck/Linton/state line area catches any eelpout that you don't plan on cleaning, please put them in a bag and freeze them whole. I would gladly come get them from you. I don't eat them myself, but my ex loves them. I still take the time to clean every one I catch for her. Not sure why I do that. Must just be one heck of a nice guy I guess.

Yeah, I kinda know that nice guys finish last. I was a nice guy for 18 years and look what happened. But I still can't resist buying her a gift every year for Christmas and her birthday. I give her half of my deer meat each year. This year so far I have given her several packs of perch, my entire paddlefish, a couple packs of trout, a few eelpout, and every pheasant I shot this year except 1. It hasn't earned me any brownie points, but I can't stop doing nice things for her. Sometimes it sucks to be the nice guy.

Looks like a nice little tourney, I see the biggest Pike only brings in $250. Does everyone here but me think the pike is that much less a fish than walleyes? By the way we ate that 42" cow that I stuck on tuesday, stuffed with baby shrimp and crab meat, onions, garlic, breading. Baked and served with a white sauce with more shrimp and crab pieces. It put the stuffed flounder I've had to shame.

Be careful with those crafty eelpout. Be sure to put them in a bucket and not on the ice. They will spawn arms & legs and take off on your snowmobile.

Northerns always end up taking a back seat to walleyes. Why? Don't know, they just do.

MR Mike that tournament your thinking of i beleave is on Rainy Lake,and yes it is a very big one,i myself talked to a old man when my son Jason,icefishing bud Chad,and i went to rainy lake for a trapp attic tournament,and he had some stories about them eelpount,or (ling) he sayes now that there are some in the 5/6 foot range,is that posible?? if so mmmm no thanks not swimming in that lake ha ha,but i did see some pics on his icehouse walls of some very ,very big ling.I think a guy could call woody resort he knows the shake down on just about eveything that goes on there!! woodysrainy lake resort,rainy lake minn 1-866-410-5001 www.fairlyreliable.com,ive met the man myself and is a nice guy to know if your planning a trip up there!! hope it helps you out Mr.Mike!! peace out (fish-on)
