What's the best crappie bait?

In your experience, what's the best crappie bait?  Live or artificial?  Minnows or worms?  Jigs or no jigs?

pink jig with a white twister tail sometimes tipped with a small minnow, if they are really active no minnow.

Green hair type jig under a bobber or plain hook & minnow under a bobber. Sure miss the glory days of Patterson Lake when I was a kid.

Depends on how active they are and at what depth.
When they are near the surface I have done best either with a small jig and minnow or a small spinner bait, have also caught them on cranks.
If they are deeper, and know where they are at, a jig with a minnow under a bobber.
If you find them at the right time of the year you can catch them on almost anything.

Thanks, it's been years since I've caught one.  Hoping to find some this week.  I used to use black/green black/blue tube jigs.

The Crappie Magnet.  If  you don't know about it, google it.  I used one down in Nashville, TN and then up in Minnesota.  They are amazing.

Yeah I would be fishing with a bare hook with her in the boat with me...I wouldn't want any distractions

This time of year casting 1/8th ounce jig with twister.  Pre-post spawn, slip bobbers with plain hook and crappie minnow.  sight fishing 1/32 tube jigs.   Vary presentation to time of year/body of water.

Wish I could do some sight fishing but the Jamestown Reservoir looks like diarrhea.

I feel you on the jamestown res looking like poop. It was stupid last night I kept fishing for crappie and breaking off with carp and northerns.... I am to prude to move up any more than 4lb test and tiny jigs or chunks of worm either
