i just bought a DT Micro iDT z3002 Super 2 Dog System. http://www.gundogsupply.com/dtmiidtsu2do.html

we were roaming around fleet farm this last weekend and stumbled across this one. 239 for the whole setup with the remote, both collars, charger, and test light. i didn't think this was too bad. it has a 900 yard range, just a hair over a half mile. for what i do, this is plenty. i have been told that whatever the range is rated at, cut it in half. so, that would put me at about a 1/4 mile. which to me is still alright.

i used a DT H2O series last fall and liked it. this one has the vibrate button also so you can "page" the dog rather than a shock. the only thing im not too keen on is the on/off switch. the collars have a magnetic switch inside them. there is a little red dot on the collar and another one on the remote. you hold the two together until the red light comes on and starts to blink. you do this again to shut them off. not so sure if that is a good thing or not.

anybody else use this collar? if so, do you have any opinions on it?

I borrowed a DT Micro Z3000 from a coworker to try on my pup. It did seem to be a good training collar, but then the battery in the collar lost its power. What I found next was an eye opener for me as I am a newbie too dog training. Replacement battery is $40.00 and it is hard wired; you have to resolder a new battery and hope that it solves the problem.

The turning on/off of DT System collars is a pain in the ass, I agree.

1 year warranty issued a problem for me since competitors offer more value.

Since test driving the DT collar, I have purchased a Sportdog Sporthunter 800.

Reviews and it having the ability to change replaceabable batteries is huge for me,but I have not tried it yet.

My pup is going to gun training the middle of the month and I am not currently doing any further collar training till he has completed his basics.

well that sucks, i guess it was kind of an impulse buy. i didn't buy it just because it was cheaper. it had everything i wanted. it came with both collars, it had the pager/vibrate feature, and it was affordable.

how long did it take before the battery went south?

I beleve the collar was 4 to 5 years old, so yours should service you and your pups for quite awhile.

If you like the set collar set, I would go with what you purchased. My reasons for not getting the same brand, model were;  collar battery, warranty and distance it  would alert my pup.
