Well, casting onto ice from shore probably wont give you much luck. lol.    I guess it depends on WHERE you are fishing?

I use a egg sinker above a swivel, with a floater hook, or  sometimes a plain hook.  I like a shorter leader with a slip sinker set up from shore than a boat, about 12-18 inches.  I usually have some rods with a plain hook if I rig up some more lines for the wife and nehpews.  One reason I give the nephews plain hooks is that they are cheaper when they star snagging them up, but when they start having more bites I will switch.

throw a big jig tipped with gulp works great for lake and river fishing. also throw a lindy rig with a plain colored hook tipped with a minnow, usually works for me. good luck1

 #13 original floater.

Jigs are popular for a reason. Are you varying the retrieve? Steady slow drag on one cast, twitching it back on another, long fast sweeps on another. All work at times.

Minnows, gulp, twister tails, crawlers should all catch walleyes on a pitched jig.
Some just better at different times than others.

Not much open water around right now except below the dams. If below barrison, I like Horsagers idea.

Where could be really helpful. Lake, river,  a tailrace?

We wait until the ice goes out. Call us in the Spring.
