Vidio Games

Wife and I were talking about what possesses a person to open fire on school kids ?
One thing she brought up is that kids from the big cities don't have much other than Video games for excitement. Are there ratings on Video games as far as content goes ? Does anyone think there is a change between attitudes and personalities between gamers and non gamers ? My experience in this is limited to pong and super mario brothers.

There are rating on video games that are "suppose" to prevent younger people from playing them. But their parents probably buy it for them anyway.

Correct.

there are ratings, but many disregard cuz "it's fake ya kno"

scanning through the tv channels will expose you to the equivalent of the nastiest video game

i'm sure it has something to do with it,  but good luck stopping or even fully understanding it

i blame it on the parents.........kinda

I don't buy into people blaming video games for stupid people. I blame it on the negligent parents not doing their jobs and raising their children correctly to know right and wrong.

And there are people that have perfect upbringings that just lose it. But blaming a video game just doesn't make sense to me.

Agreed, I think there are way too many people out there who don't even let their kids get the opportunity to experience what reality is. "Go play your games kids and leave us alone." Dosent matter what kind of game or even how bad it is, many kids dont have any idea what the earth they live on really feels like.

I dont go around guessing cup sizes either I just know a nice rack when I see one.

I don't think anyone is blaming anything , Just asking a few questions.
What Is that the concept or goal for of some  of the ADULT video games ? is it good guy against bad guy or it it all against all ?     Is there no value in a human life but you get points for dead people ?   Just asking

Viidio games, parents, lack of armed guards at schools, nut cases, too many guns, take your pick. plenty of blame, but KNOW real answeres.  The only real answer after the shootings is pain and suffering.

What happened to good ole games like PacMan, Frogger, Donkey Kong.  Now it's a bunch of shooter up games that promote senseless acts. Kids at young ages it blurs that line of right and wrong. I don't think it should be something to be ignored.

u can basically go postal on anything you want in most modern day 1st person shooters

some missions/types of play even call for the mass shooting of a group

i kno when i was younger i played em, (but wasnt too serious , go figure) soooo sometimes when i'd team play with friends who were BIG gamers and VERY serious about what they do (no, my friends werent xdeano, whisky, or bareback) i'd shoot them all right at the end of the mission................just to piss em off......lol

i played games where you killed shit and i have not had the urge to go shoot any one.  Tv games  and all that is a load of bullshit it is on the parents to make sure kids know fake from real.  You can also turn on parental controls my kid plays call of duty and he knows the difference between the game and real soldiers

I play Call of Duty pretty much to just keep in touch with old college friends in other states that i don't get to see much.

It is a complete cop-out for people when they blame video games. Just trying to pass the buck from their own accountablility

I used to watch bugs bunny, and I have never wanted to drop an anvil on someones head.

Over in the fun loving muslim world they dont even have cartoons or games and they shoot each other up everyday allday. Who knows why the crazies are just that, but I would really doubt it has to to with this stuff.

There's a whole generation of Americans that have no idea about the truth of the Clintons, particularly Hillary

Blaming video games is no different than blaming the gun.  I have played all kinds of video games and didn't think about shooting up a school.

Holy crap, Why so offensive ?  Im in no way blaming vidio games , Just asking questions that I have no clue about and then -only then I will form an opinion. I am not bad mouthing vidio games. We are lucky as hell to live where we do and that is why people here are somewhat  normal , We stayed in a highly populated area for a couple years in an apartment. Our neighbors played vidio games louder than heck  nonstop 24-7  They were edgy as hell and rude when I asked if thy could turn it down at night.   Could have been drugs , lack of sleep or vidios or all of the above.    All I know is they needed a hobby or social life.     Again, Just asking an honest question trying to offend anyone.

Lets stop spending our time on blaming the actions of the mentally weak on video games and spend that time teaching our kids that killing is WRONG! (not pointed to anyone on here but at the media.)

I confiscated my son's Xbox a coouple of weeks ago.  he was talking to his mother in an inappropriate fashion.  I don't say a word, just walk up to the Xbox jerk the cables and walk out.  Trying to get her to use the same technique.  Anyway,  a few days later i over hear my son asking when he is getting his Xbox back.  Mom tells him, "I like you better when you don't have one. your a nicer person."  I think the COD type game bring out the killer instinct in people (young and old alike).  Some parenting along with gaming and probably no issues, but unlimited unmonitored gaming has the potential for problems.

As a kid we had BB gun wars, shooting japs or nazis,  surprised no one lost an eye except Curt

i occasionally play the new Call of Duty.... and nothing pisses me off more than when i get into a game thats got a little kid (assuming 8-13 years old) in it....... not only because of the violence in the game, but, when your playing online if you have a headset on you get to listen to all the other players trash talk.....  now lemme tell ya, nothin makes me happier than listening to a 12 year old kid tell a guy thats probably close to his 30's that he's a "stupid f*gg*t camping Ni**er b*t*h" because he sits in one spot the whole round and shoots people...... needless to say if i join a game that has younger kids in it, i leave that game right away......  parents need to play a little more of an active roll in their childrens lives.....  too many people use tv and video games as a baby sitter these days....

Never argue with an idiot.... they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Incrementalism

It affects many things.

As a society we have incrementaly moved away from personal values, ideologies and accountabilities that used to prevent people from doing these things.

Often times in the name of political correctness.

Does the game by itself cause someone to go out and shoot 20 children?

Probably not any more than owning a firearm does.

But please do not suggest the ever increasing realism and violence and graphic nature of video games, movies, TV internet ect... does not play a part in incrementaly moving people to a place where a desicion to do something like this is not easier.

Add in the incremental lack of personal responsibility of parenting and what do we really expect?

The reality is "my Mom never hugged me enough" may in fact be a partial cause along with my Dad never took my X Box away ect....., but we should not allow it to be an excuse which our society does simply because we have incrementaly moved away from holding anyone accountable for their actions.

About one year ago this time of year I sat on a bench in a very crowded mall by an entrance. For over an hour I sat and watched and although many opportunities were there, not one single younger person held a door open for anyone.

Such a simple thing, and yet in our current society how many people take the time to bother.

Indeed not holding a door open is a far cry from killing 20 kids, but incrementalism will get you there.

The generation gap is getting wider ,  It is more common to see a pure lack of respect for elders and mankind in some kids.       Respect  is not required in all households , That is a shame.    As far as violent video games,    They are as  useless as tits on a boar pig and that is a fact .

I'm gonna go home and play Grand Theft Auto after work. This game may influence my decision to go out and steal a car, run over some pedestrians, find a prostitute and kill her (only to get my money back), and maybe sit down at a fancy restaurant afterwards. Anyone else game for that?

So we make spelling and math video games and they teach kids to spell and calculate. Trainers/teachers so that they are effective and good.

Then we make video games that teach you to kill people day after day after day... and we claim they have no effect whatsoever? Right.

I am a gamer by the way. But the online stuff isn't for me - I like shooting AI enemies, not real people operating them, it creeps me out.

Fact # 2
If you have kids,  Spending time with them Reading a book or teaching your kids something constructive depending on their age  is time well spent  in comparison to sitting there playing video games .
