Had great luck this last weekend. Because of the nice weather they werent bunched up like usual for this time of year. We did a lot of walking and had 5 dogs with, however each day of our three day hunt produced some nice sized birds with the biggest being 24 1/2 inch tail.
Over all a terrific hunt, considering the population is half what it was last yr.

Found quite a few more birds out last weekend while deer/pheasant hunting south of Dickinson. They have good color compared to opening weekend when the birds seemed very young and almost colorless.
We shot one doe, and 9 pheasants on Saturday, while hunting only in the afternoon.
One of the birds had a 26 1/2 inch tail feather, not our biggest but best this season.
Not a lot of guys out hunting so the deer werent moving around much.

Didn't want to believe all the pre-opener reports so we were still very optimistic about finding pheasants in SE ND, but we found very few. Numbers are way down from last year in this part of the state. We started on the SW side of Tewaukon and had a lot of competition from other hunters. Usually this is not a problem on opening day, but there were very few birds crowing at dawn and our first walk yielded no flushes of any kind. Moved from game and fish land to private land to plots and only saw a handful of birds and they were all concentrated in harvested fields directly across the road from the wildlife refuge. 6 guys saw maybe a dozen birds all day with only one shot at a rooster. We had dogs along as well. Too bad, its going to be quite a few years before we see pre 2010 pheasant numbers in the southeast again. Opening day= no birds for us! Great day to be out though and duck numbers looked good. Wish they'd open a season on cormorants though!

Went out 6 out of the possible 10 days so far and birds are of the plenty. Seeing lots of game around everywhere. The standing crop is hidding most of the birds which will make for great hunting later in the year.

Went out on Saturday and I've gotta say what a perfect day! We were not even 100 yards into the the first walk and my friends lab got birdy and worked up a sharp-tail right in front of my friend and he made a good shot and knocked him down. Then not 5 mins later my setter went on point right in front of me and 3 sharp-tails got up and I got 2 of the 3, then as i was looking for one of the downed ones my setter locked up again and thinking he was pointing the dead one i told him to fetch and he moved and another one flushed and i got that one! 200 total yard long walk and 4 beautiful sharp-tails. Then we moved to another spot where I have seen both grouse and Huns and figured we could proly find 2 more sharp-tails. This spot is a little hill with some evergreen trees and nice grass surrounded by a stubble field, a great spot by anybody's standards, but this is a confidence spot for me. Everyone has those spots. Total area of this spot is about 300 yards at most. We were about  half ways done with it when one Partridge jumped about 25 yards ahead of me and i made a nice crossing shot between 2 trees, then as the lab is on his way to retrieve it he flushes another one and i got another one. After retrieving that one we started working around the hill top a bit more and found the covey. Mike made 2  great shots for 2 more then we followed the covey of about 15 more birds about 100 yards away from the hill top to a small rock pile surrounded by some tall stubble and got our last 2 to limit out. Oh and did i mention we also shot 6 ducks on the day. What a amazing day, good dogs and a great friend and ideal weather, can u have a better day than that!!

South of jamestown and tough tough hunting found a few birds in big groups lots and lots of hens but that was it. The regular spots had not even a sign with the dusting of snow really tough going not sure if they piled up in the corn still or what maybe the bird population is that low

Have hunted in several areas of the state southwest, central and southcentral/southeast.  Pheasant in all areas.  Birds appear to be grouped and not spread out.  Do not know if this is due to standing crop, lower numbers or just happen stance.  Can walk alot and not find any then bang you are in to large groups.  Have taken both young and older roosters.  hens appear in good numbers.  After the crops are off I think people will be surprised at the number of birds out there.  Good luck to all, looking forward to winter pheasant hunts.
