Good Luck!!  I don't remember the brand of mine off hand. But i put it in last spring and one of my dogs just got used to the shock and eventually just ran through it. I even put 2 shock collars on her and it didn't help(I wanted to put one on her flanks but the wife wouldn't let me..haha). My other dog wouldn't even leave the garage after she got her first shock and they have an acre to run in. Seems no matter how big it is, its never big enough. And then with this lovely winter of course snow removal got hard on it when it was so warm and then recieved another foot of snow.  I'm not sure if i put mine in right but i went about 4 to 5 inches deep and plus had to go across a gravel driveway which was alot of work.
You wanna see my resume`, look at my wall !!

I'm a little late getting to this but Tom Hoff in Bismarck sells and install Petsafe brand underground fences and it's well worth it. Besides Lasik surgery it's the best money I've ever spent. I have a hot blooded shorthair that has mega prey drive that won't leave the yard unless on a leash. I also have a 140lb Newfoundland that won't leave the yard even if I put a 20lb cooked turkey on the road. It took each dog roughly 20 minutes to learn the system. Both were collar conditioned prior and the warning beeep the fence emits is very similar to my tri tronics collar so I credit them being advanced in that category.
I have 2.5 acres and have the entire perimeter enclosed with the invisible fence. The collars have 10 settings for stimulation strength and the zone of correction can be adjusted on the fence. In theory I can crank my Shorthairs collar to 10, and if I crank up the zone to the maximum distance which is 15 feet to each side of the wire, my shorhair has to tolerate a level 10 blast for 30 feet, which most dogs might try once but not many will ever do it again.
My neighbors tried a do it yourself inotek (inojunk) system and I don't think it ever kept their 2 dogs contained. Both are locked in a kennel 24/7.
Pay a professional to do it and you will be happy.

Prime example, this morning while feeding the dogs, a nice fat little cotton tail rabbit decided to hop up the underground fence line right toward my Shorthair. He about turned inside out but didn't even get close enough to get the warning tone. Either a very smart bunny or dumb. lol

I've had the buried wire type for about 18 years, can't remember the name but bought it at TSC or some farm store.
When they put in Rural Water they ripped the wire and cut it several times so bought a wireless one, a havahart model.  You can set the range for up to 300+ feet.  The downside is that the range is always going to be round, which might not be ideal on a squar city lot.  You can pay a whole bunch more money and have one that will work on a square or odd shaped lot, but that was a bit more than I'd want to pay.
I have a new pup and I've been having a lot of trouble with the wireless one.  Proabaly will work OK once I get her trained, but training seems much harder than the buried wire one.
The control box has about 5 settings, and as the dog wasn't reacting to the lower ones, i kept turning it up holding it on the back of my hand to see how much shock there was.  Even on level 5 the amount of shock isn't that impressive.   Sometimes the pup reacts, sometimes not.  Usually not, even though the collar is beeping, the red shock light is on, and supposedly its zapping her.   I tried tighteining the collar till she almost chokes and that didn't help either.  Waiting for new longer probes that might help.
The rechargable litium polymer batteries only last a few days, too.  But once they get trained you can almost throw the batteries away anyway.  They won't challenge it, even on the trail of a running pheasant out here.
The wireless one is really convenient to set up and great in theory, but so far the jury is out here on how well it works.

Stickinbigones - one of my E Cockers learned to run through it years ago so I borrowed a regular shock collar, turned it up to high, and hid where she always ran out while my wife let the dog out of tghe house.  When she hit where she ran through the wire i hit the shock collar over and over and over - she yelped and rolled right down the hill but I kept zapping her.  She never did that again, and if I hadn't done that , she'd have undoubtedly been pancacked on the busy road out front.   Reminded me of the old saying "Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind!"
Might have to be a bit cruel to the new pup!   But it beats having them killed or hurt.

Depends on the dog, some get used to the shock and eat it for breakfast, they quickly learn once they get far enough away it will quit. with proper training one should be able to make them work o.k.

Tom Hoff PETSAFE! Worth every cent! Do not do it by yourself. Call him and he will come out and quote a price. Great guy reliable and does very good work. Had mine for two labs for 18 months and they are trained! Hardly ever wear collars anymore.
Wonderful Reagan quote that says it like it is! "It isn't that Liberals are ignorant. It's just that they know so much that isn't so."

Yep, the guys that put them in professionally have machines that make it easy.   I used a combination of an old skill saw and a little trencher, but it was a lot of work.   Would hire someone to do it now.
