Good grief…

MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Twins have finalized a two-year contract with veteran middle infielder Jamey Carroll that includes a mutual option for the 2014 season.

The deal was announced Wednesday, bringing the 37-year-old career .278 hitter to Minnesota. This is the latest attempt by the Twins to stabilize their shortstop situation, after signing Japanese star Tsuyoshi Nishioka last season and watching him struggle at both the plate and in the field.

Carroll hit .290 with 17 RBIs in 452 at-bats for the Los Angeles Dodgers last year, playing both second base and shortstop. This is his fifth organization in 10 seasons. Carroll has a .991 career fielding percentage.

I would have preferred some younger talent but its never bad to have a seasoned veteran in the field.

Me either.  I don't watch NL much but if he has been with 5 teams you'd think it would ring a bell.  Well, I guess we'll wait and see.

I don' t think 'shore up' is the correct word, I would use 'settle for'
Without two decent starting pitchers they are looking at another 85 loss season at best.

I don't mind this signing at all, hes a solid veteran who can get on base and  plays solid defense, something the Twins did not get from the SS position last year.  There are not many good options in free agency and the Twins aren't they type of team to sign the top tier guys (expensive and cost them a draft pick.)
