Okay guys, I think we should have a turkey contest this year.  What do you think?  We can have one or two.  One longest spur and one longest beard.  If you guys want to do spur let me know and I'll start that thread or go ahead and start it.  Open to suggestions.  Was thinking a pic, with a tape measure and with your filled out tag beside it.  Of course it is on your honor that it is your bird.  If I'm missing anything let me know and then I'll get the contest threads up.

Ya! why don't all of you just conceed now! I wish it was that easy, but as anyone that has hunted those darn birds knows, it takes luck and lots of hours to get that "Gobzilla". And I would say anyone who hunts is just as likely to bag that big gobbler as anyone else. I think that Gregg has a big andvantage, by owning a bunch of prime turkey habitat, rather than chasing them around public ground like I do.

As soon as my shoulder heals your visions of glory will go up in smoke Dave, "GOBZILA" will succumb to the fiery belch of MY 28 ga! Its beard will be so large I will use it to paint the barn. Don't ya love the pregame hype?

Cheaters!  Using a shotgun...

Only kidding.  So we want longest beard and longest spur or just one contest?

Some of us have a partcially torn bicep tendon, so I can't exert more than 25# of lift or pull. I've had to hang the bow up for the last 4 years. I could get a medical exemption for a crossbow, but my wife said no more toys. I think it should be 3 contests; longest beard, longest spur, and combination of lenghts of both spurs and the beard(s).

Ah, I don't care what a guy uses.  Three contests sounds good.  Will see if we get any more thoughts on it and then I'll start an official thread on all three.  We can use those three for the results and keep this one for the chatter.  Will a pic, tag and tape be enough for the rules?  I think if we have the tape beside the beard with the measurement and the tag that shows it is your bird and you filled it, that should be enough.  The rest is on honor system.  If I'm missing something let me know though.  Should be fun.  I don't know what the winner will get yet, but it will be something.  Good luck, I figure we can start the "official contest threads" right before season starts.

I'll let that up to the fellas here.  What do you guys think?

I don't care, as long as the ND is approved by me. ; )

About the weight, we can do that one too.  Think that will be good.  We'll have those 3 contests and then add the 4th weight one as a "just for fun" contest.  Not postivie on how to do the weight one though.  Would really have to be honor system.

Now, before we get too far involved what are we going to do when I get my double bearded turkey?

Gregg; I'm hoping the 3 bearded bird that I'm hoping to bag will trump your double bearded bird. It's the wild card in the game, so to speak. It should make for some interesting totals.
Weight is so hard use, because you should field dress and pluck your bird as soon as possible to keep your bird from spoiling. I use an old hand held spring type fishing scale, but I would not trust it to be an official weight, only close.
I think we should be willing to take on anybody that wants to enter. Everbody knows that Nebraska grows bigger "turkeys" than anyone else. HA HA I was talking about the kind of turkeys that have feathers and fly. Otherwise my wife says that I would qualify most of the time.

I thought the same about the weight, that is why I think we'll just have a "for fun" on that one.  I'll start that one too but the other three will be the "official" contest threads.  Triple would be awesome.  My goal this year is to get a double or more.  Pretty lofty goal, will take some real luck.

So, if we get a double are we going to add them together for the total?  I think so, to me if you get a double or more you deserve to win.  I've yet to take a double+.
