I think I have a beaver in my lake inthe backyard, he or she is destroying my willow trees.  What is the best method for trapping or locating a beaver and dispatching it??

I'm serious!  When do those buggers come out to chew on the sticks?  Setting traps makes me a might nervous and I probably would screw it up and not catch it so when is the best time to sit out and watch for one and nail it?

The fist step is scouting out the one you want to nail,  Late evening is the best time as quite a few of them work during the day, You want to nail the workers, The others are to lazy to cut  trees and not worth messing with.   Wait where they hang out and watch them the first night , Even if they are chewing the trees let them be and just watch them so you know which ones you would like to nail.  Then the next night go to the same spot except this time be ready, They are curious as a racoon and they like sparkly shiny stuff.  Hang  the largest diamond you can find about 1 foot off the ground on your prize tree. She will come when she sees it , Wait for the right moment and don't take any chances and you will do just fine.

Down south west of Jamestown.  I am trying to figure out if it is a beaver or muskrats.  The cuts are on branches from 1 to 4 inches thick, the branches are left lying around so I am thinking now it is a muskrat.  But the cuts are high 2-3 feet off the ground.  The cuts are angled not rounded like from a beaver cut.  I have seen beaver in several sloughs inthe area though.  Several years ago i had two beaver in this lake, actually saw them, but they disappeared.  Since then I planted a row a willow trees and just recently they are being cut to pieces.  Usually if muskrats are present I see them but I have not seen any since this spring and I know those are not around any more.  Just frustrating as my willows were growing so well.

bbouncer, Sorry we was teasing ya.  Did you find the culprit yet ?    I am sure it's  beaver,  they slice through small branches with one bite so its a clean cut  like that.  Cuts made 2 or 3 feet off the ground would mean big beaver or angry neighbor.  Look for a  beaver lodge in shallow water close by..
