me and my wife are getting 4 wheelers and have a 2 year old daughter and were just wondering if they make any sort of baby seats for 4 wheelers we wont be riding any trails with any risk of rolling or anything we just want a safe way of letting our daughter have some fun with us

I hope you are talking about a side by side. I can only imagine a states attorney would frown upon a child of this age getting injured on an atv. Just saying...

P.s. side by sides have roll bars and seatbelts. It would be a must for me having such a young kid on an atv, not much could be worse than having a child strapped to an atv and having it flip simply because you were on a slop at 15 mph and hit a rock in the grass.

Agree! Side by side with child seat locked in! Driven with extreme care! Wouldn't recommend any two year old on a standard ATV!  Remember this is the most important thing in the world to you, why risk it?

I cant believe this is even a legitimate question.   Like was said earlier. Wanna take your daughter on rides? Get a side by side.

sorry, cant back you on this one. too many 'surprise' accidents on atv's this year and last, suggesting it should be the last place to put a minor child. even though i know you would be careful, drive at slow speeds, on roads, etc...  i see lots of little kids on motorcycles lately, too, but as safely as i think i drive mine, there's no way i'd put a kid on my bike, either.

to each their own. good luck!

You appear to be a young family with a small daughter, maybe your first.  You might want to rethink this whole idea.  It would be horrible to spend the rest of your life blaming yourself for any accident.  Each to his own, just a thought!

I have only seen the seats for the utv's as far as 4 wheelers go most don't recomend passengers but the one's that do usually have a pretty good upright seat in the back, with that said those cost damn near as much as a good used utv. Bad part about 4wheelers is if you have the kid sit in front of you and you hit something they are the one who gets all the force. Like you said you are just going to be cruising along on roads and not trailriding but the last thing a guy wants is to be buckled into a 4wheeler your best bet is a utv but the 2 up atv wouldn't be that bad of an alternative if your girl can fit into allright and be able to hold on. i guess  we started riding horses by ourselves when we were 2-3 so like someone else said to each his own

I will disagree slightly with the rest here.  I will agree the best way to go is a sidebyside and then belt a child seat in the middle so your young one can be strapped in.

Here is what I do.  I have a Polaris 500 ATV.  I put the tall windshield on there on purpose.  My 3 year old wears a child's helmet and sits in front of me on the ATV. We have the ATV harness which straps on the front of the child and then onto my shoulders.  the tall windshield keeps the bugs from hitting my child's face or if it starts to rain or is colder out, then there is wind protection.

You can buy the ATV harness for kids almost any place online.

Having said that. I wouldn't ride trails with my kid on.  We ride roads along the lake as an evening activity.  paved and gravel roads only and speeds are pretty darn slow.

Take a kid hunting instead of hunting for your kid.

First I am a Dad, then a husband, then a hunter.  Sometimes I get the husband and hunter mixed up, but luckily my wife remembers what order they should be in. :-)

I'd agree with everyone on this one.  Like DDreisen I've driven my standart ATV a lot with grandkids in front, but fairly slowly and carefully and only on flat ground, and not at night.
My UTV is ideal for little kids, though.  Strap em in and go, but always being careful - no sidehilling, roughntough off road stuff.  The roll bars on a UTV would help, but the metal on them is surprisingly thin, and I sure wouldn't want to test them.
You can't be too careful with them, especially with kids involved.   Accidents statistically go way up at night and with booze involved.

Remember that   Emergency Room Staff  don't call them "Another Trauma Victim" for nothing.

Let me clarify something we wont be doing anything at all dangerous we will just be bringing the atvs camping with us and the only riding that my daughter would be doing would be on the road to the bathrooms/showers or ride the road to the lake to go fishing speeds would never exceed 10 mph.

Thanks for the atv harness idea i'll have to look that up.

Let's have some common sense prevail here. I am sure that he will drive slow and be careful. I don't see any problem giving your child a ride on a fourwheeler. I have been doing it since my oldest was probably 2 yrs old and he is now 16. Take it easy and slow and be careful and it will be fine. Of course he has been riding on his own since he has been 7 or 8.

None of these parents were going to go fast or go anywhere dangerous.  There are a lot more headlines out there.

in addition to all the above, check your local laws...I see your handle says you are from SD. ND law says ATVs can only carry the number of passengers it was designed for, so placing a child in front of you on the seat would be illegal if the machine is designed for only one rider....just another reason for ranger rick to give you a bad day...

One time I was giving a child a ride on a lawn tractor...not mowing, just riding around the farm yard at 2 or 3 mph...something hidden in the grass stopped the mower dead and all my weight pushed the kid against the steering wheel. Luckily no permanent damage, just ruined the kid's day (and the kid's mother's and mine) Could have been much worse...since then I cringe when I see someone carrying a child in front of them on anything...

For those of you against a toddler on a standard atv,  what are your views of a toddler on a horse?

"The best defense against usurpatory government is an assertive citizenry."

I suppose you figured there was nothing wrong with Steve Irwin swinging his newborn out over Elvis either.

Well there is an easy leap to take. Giving your kid a ride on a atv or dangling over a crock. For every headline of a kid dying or getting hurt in atv accidents, I can find hunting accident, car accident, slip and fall on ice, drown in water. I guess you can walk around worrying you are going to die at any minute or you can take a little care and start living life.

I have been riding atv's for 20 years now and i have never once had an accident and find it to be one of the safer things that i do. All I asked for was a way to make it safe for a kid to come with me and so far only had one helpful answer. And yes you can find articles on kids killed in atv accidents, but look at how many are killed in car accidents or of choking or anything else and I bet the numbers will be higher. Of course there is risk but i don't believe there is any more risk than me getting in my truck with my kids because who knows how crappy the other drivers on the road are, but i'm not going to make my kids stay at home all the time.
