Alright I realize this isn't the biggest deal in the world but its sure annoying to go out to your pickup in the morning to find someone has stole your hitch. Looks like I'm buying a lock pin this time.

i had that happen also...frustrating....then i went thru 2 of the locking pins because the dang lock seized up, extremely frustrating when you need to change ball sizes. you could also use a large bolt and double nut it, which i have now done

Just put a Towtector on the hitch.  That thing's about as good as a padlock for trying to get the hitch off the truck.

Then again, the Towtector costs about $280.

Seriously though, stealing a hitch is pathetic.  The damn things aren't even that expensive!

Have lost 2 this way, right in my driveway. It is now locked in place. Nothing worse than backing up to the boat and realizing at 5 am you have no hitch and need to make a walmart run. Only thing worse is opening the beer cooler in the middle of the lake and only having one beer left.

Yeah that sucks!  I took one of my extras and took a grinder and cut it about 2/3 of the way through the metal.  Filled it in and painted.  Then I left that one on all the time while I kept my good one locked up.  The cut one was stolen and about 2 weeks later we knew who took it.  And if you are not in a smaller area, you can have peace of mind that you will fu%# there day up!!!  Even if you don't hear about it.

You can buy a hitch and a ball for about 35-40 bucks.  This thievery is just plain dumb.  I have never had mine stolen likely because it looks really used.  I had a friend that had a chrome one and that sucker was gone in a heart beat.

Does any one have any good lock pins they use?  I have had a couple and they all seem to rust up and you can't get the dang key in to unlock them???

I should put a chrome hitch on my pickup and park it outside a busy apt complex and then hide with my bow.  Once the thief pulls the hitch, I would release an arrow right into the thigh of the perpetrator.  You think that would deter them?

I wonder if you could some way "electrify" a hitch deliver a nice shock when armed.

Easily done. But with our current "Legal System" the liability involved would not be worth it. Just like when thieves get hurt/the snot beat out of them, sue their intended victim and actually win.

The liability on this too would not be worth it. The POS would claim his "buddy" said he could borrow it and accidentally got the wrong address. The justice system sometimes delivers none.

It's not that bad.

The couple that I have had use a key that looks similar to ones used in pop machines…there is usually a rubber cap that goes over the end…if this rubber cap is lost or comes off dirt and gravel and moisture get in the lock and dang near impossible to use again.

I even had to go so far as welding the ball to the hitch. Jerks I work with use to "borrow" the ball or complete hitch and never return it. After I had to cut off a couple of locks I've resorted to the quick pin and all my hitches get stowed behind the back seat when not in use. The pin has an end on it that cams over and slides down. No hairpin clips to loose or bust your knuckles pulling out.
