I love the complete side step of the mountain lion question.

ND went from some of the best deer hunting in the country to some of the worst.  not good.

They knew the deer numbers were down state wide before they printed those tags!

Its kinda like remembering T.P. after you are already at the lake.

If we're not supposed to eat animals, how come they're made out of meat?

It will be interesting to see what the senate and house do for wildlife ... see if anyone wants to actively represent a "resource" for their local communities and constituents... other than energy production.

I am not anti-energy but we had better remember what happens when we neglect logic... energy and wildlife can coexist as long as we keep both in relavent conversation.

What is Ryan Taylors view on wildlife management... specifically big game management? How about your local representative? Unless your willing to make a phone call to your representative then you better not complain when things in your area aren't properly represented.

Depends on how you look at it. I for one am not that disappointed that all of sudden it became a little tougher to kill stuff. Maybe people will actually have to learn how to hunt again and remember what it's like to be humbled by not always filling every tag or every limit. Just food for thought.

I could care less about filling tags.  I know one thing, i don't have to worry about hitting deer on the highway.

Half the salmon caught in SD were tagged and released in Sak??? I thought that comment was pretty shocking. We just can't get a break with Ole Sak. Add all the smelt and ciscoe to that. Sounds like the Big Flush that happened to Oahe years ago. Judgeing by all the smelt I seen floating around the tailrace this fall it could very well have happened.

Holy crud? 1/2 the salmon caught in SD came from Sak? Holy Toilet flush!

I'd take a little tougher, I'd take even a lot tougher.  But all-time low since my dad hunted out west as a kid?  Or perhaps the worst it has ever been?  Nah, I really do not want that again but guess what, that's where we are at.

Can still kill out west but a person feels bad shooting a deer.  I'll still put in though, just won't put in for a doe.  Can't remember the last time I shot a mule deer doe in the Badlands.  Maybe 10 years?

There was 36 inches of snow on the ground last year at this time?

According to info I have, we had just under 26 inches in Bismarck by this time last year, but not all of it was still on the ground on December 15th. The 14 inches that fell in Bismarck area in September/October melted before November began. There were 70 degree temps in early November last year statewide, so the large amount of heavy wet snow we all got in October melted in short order.

Yeah according to climate data there was 9 inches average snow pack and greatest snow pack in December was 15 inches and that was on Christmas Day.

Maybe 36 inches fell but there wasn't that much on the ground.

Anyone who had trail cams out early this year and knew what they were looking at could figure that whitetail development was 3 weeks behind normal. Winter coats were slow to shed and fawns were vulnerable. Antler development was off to a slow start but picked up when row drops started to grow.

I anticipated that whitetail activity was 3 weeks behind so the Oct lull would actually carry on into November.

I sat on the two nights before the gun opener and was treated to disappointment. The gun opener was less than spectacular. The second weekend of gun season is always my favorite but this year it bombed.

The last weekend of the season I invited a group of guys who sandbagged and saved my home on Fox Island to join me in my deer camp. They all bailed.

I went alone and have never been treated to a scenerio like this. I was on stand 45 min before legal shooting time and with a pair of swavarski binoculars was able to identify many deer in proximity of 200 yds 11 were bucks, 8 were shootable as bow bucks, 1 worthy of a 130 grain spitzer.

Now when I read the pathetic whining of some poor slob who is disappointed because a 150 buck didn’t present himself broadside at 40 yds my blood pressure peaks. Get off your ass and hunt you moron!!

I believe I have experienced the best the prairie has to offer. When the challenge to get to your field before you hit three roosters with your truck is a memory. When I say a little prayer of thanks to Dale Hennegar for every walleye I catch, when I communicate on a primal level with the geese nesting in my back yard, I feel worthy of my efforts.

North Dakota Fish & Game deserves accolades for their efforts not condemnation.

Technically, almost all the salmon caught in SD come from Sakakawea since there is no natural reproduction of landlocked salmon and they get their fry the hatchery here in ND.  Those eggs are milked from salmon out of Sakakawea.

What do they do with all the eggs they take from the ladders at gettysburg.  i think you might need to research that statement a little it is 100% false.

Less snow this winter will help, and it will not be long before people want CRP back.  I would guess the poor economical condition of our nation will result in a farm program without subsidies for ethanol.  Ethanol can not survive without huge subsidies. Obama isn't  black he is green, and he has been wasting money on green.  I hope there is money for CRP.  If so I think there will be a lot of corn to eat with our venison in a couple of years.

What we have to cross our fingers on is disease.  It really whacked the white-tail out west.
