Tara Andvik

So what's the latest?

Did her hubby know what was going on or was he completely oblivious to what was going on?  I'm guessing he had no part in it..being he is with the kids currently.  She has asked for visitation with kids and husband.

She plead not guilty....and according to the article I read...she's had bizarre behavior before (obviously) and after treatment.

She's contacted "witnesses".   Like what witnesses?  Witnesses to what actions?

Has anyone taken guesses on her motive?

Kinda of a weird case, even media-wise....as there hasn't been really much info.

I just have to think of all the people she duped out of time, energy, and money in helping her.  If I was her husband she would have some explaining to do at a pig farm.

I won't be piling on this one, I think there's real mental illness at the root of it and that's a darn shame. She probably suffers from borderline personality disorder or some such. I pity her and her family/husband.

MOORHEAD – A trial date has been set for Tara Andvik, the 33-year-old rural Barnesville woman accused of setting fires at her home.

Judge Michael Kirk set the trial date for May 8 at a hearing in Clay County District Court this afternoon.

Andvik faces three counts of first-degree arson for fires allegedly set on her property in October. Each arson charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $20,000 fine if convicted.

Is it impious to weigh goose music and art in the same scales? I think not, because the true hunter is merely a noncreative artist. Who painted the first picture on a bone in the caves of France? A hunter. Who alone in our modern life so thrills to the sight of living beauty that he will endure hunger and thirst and cold to feed his eye upon it? The hunter. Who wrote the great hunter's poem about the sheer wonder of the wind, the hail, and the snow, the stars, the lightnings, and the clouds, the lion, the deer, and the wild goat, the raven, the hawk, and the eagle, and above all the eulogy to the horse? Job, one of the great dramatic artists of all time. Poets sing and hunters scale the mountains primarily for one and the same reason--the thrill of beauty. Critics write and hunters outwit their game primarily for one and the same reason--to reduce that beauty to possession. The differences are largely matters of degree, consciousness, and that sly arbiter of the classification of human activities, language. If, then, we can live without goose music, we may as well do away with stars, or sunsets, or Iliads. But the point is we would be fools to do away with any of them.

MOORHEAD – After being wronged by a former co-worker with whom she had an affair, Tara Andvik sought revenge by blaming him for fires set on her property last fall.

That was the picture painted in Clay County District Court by Assistant County Attorney Heidi Davies on Tuesday, the first day of the trial against Andvik, a 34-year-old rural Barnesville woman accused of setting a series of fires on her property destroying her home and a barn.

Davies told the 12-person jury that a relationship between Andvik and Keith Beam, a 46-year-old Wisconsin producer of an outdoor TV program, initially started as a working friendship. Andvik, a bow-hunting enthusiast, emailed Beam in 2010 to ask advice about how to edit a video, Davies said.

That correspondence quickly turned into something romantic and intense.

Eventually, Andvik told Beam that she would be getting a divorce from her husband, Davies said, and Beam later proposed to her.

However, when it became clear Andvik hadn’t gotten a divorce, Beam ended their relationship, at which point Andvik became upset, Davies told the jury in her opening statement.

When the series of fires started at her property last October, Andvik, who Davies said was present at every single fire, tried to direct suspicion at Beam.

“One other possibility she kept going back to repeatedly was that this must be Keith Beam,” Davies said. “Repeatedly, repeatedly, repeatedly, Keith Beam’s name comes up.”

Davies also referred to three anonymous, handwritten letters that were mailed last month to Andvik, her attorney and to a reporter at The Forum. The letters claimed that Beam had offered the writer $50,000 to make Andvik disappear, and were postmarked Auburn, Wyo.

Davies told the jury that investigators have since determined that Andvik has an ex-boyfriend currently living in Auburn.

“Between January and April of this year, the defendant had several phone calls with her friend in Auburn,” Davies said.

In his opening remarks, though, Andvik’s attorney, Steve Mottinger, tried to describe the relationship in exactly the opposite way.

It was Beam, not Andvik, he said, who felt wronged by what happened to their relationship and sought revenge.

“Keith Beam pursued Tara Andvik relentlessly,” Mottinger said, referring to explicit and graphic emails sent by Beam.

Although Andvik did visit an attorney and draw up divorce papers, Mottinger told the jury that she had second thoughts and decided to call off her relationship with Beam, which made the man livid.

“He hitched his star to the wagon, and it didn’t work out,” Mottinger said.

Mottinger did not explicitly tell the jury that Beam was responsible for the fires, but he did say that Andvik would not be connected to the arsons.

“You will not see any direct physical evidence linking Tara Andvik to those fires,” he said.

After the attorneys outlined their respective cases, the jury heard testimony from several firefighters and other law enforcement officials who responded to the fires, several of whom referred to Andvik’s behavior as suspicious.

On the night of Oct. 19, when her house was on fire, Barnesville firefighter Dave Grommesh said he thought Andvik had an attitude that seemed out-of-place.

“She seemed a little bit cocky, real agitated that way,” he said. “It didn’t seem to be the type of reaction you’d see after losing your entire house.”

Mottinger, though, tried to deflect that observation.

“Would it be fair to say that different people react differently to fires, tragedies, that sort of thing?” he asked.

“That could be, yes,” Grommesh replied.

Fawn Krosch, a Clay County sheriff’s deputy, testified that Andvik’s behavior a few nights prior also struck her as odd.

“She mentioned that neither her or Matt smoked, which I thought was odd, because I never mentioned that cigarettes were involved,” Krosch said. “There were a few things in my brief conversation with her that I thought were strange.”

Davies also tried to establish in afternoon testimony that Andvik’s presence at the property, and no one else’s, was a common thread with all the fires.

Mottinger, though, tried in cross-examination to show that between when the fires were set and when authorities actually responded, there would have been enough time for somebody to get away.

Andvik faces three counts of first-degree arson for fires allegedly set on her property on Oct. 12 and 19. Each charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $20,000 fine if convicted.

The trial will pick up with more witness testimony this morning and will continue Thursday, Monday, and possibly Tuesday. Jurors will have Friday off.

Mottinger was the court-appointed attorney for Daniel Wacht in Cooper. He never really put up a fight in that case, because it was pretty clear on who had committed the crime. In that case, he used the same "there's no physical evidence argument."

Do these defenders research their attorney's or just go with one out of the blue? It seems like Mottinger is using the exact same defense in this case, and the outcome is probably going to be the exact same.

Do attorney's have Win/Loss records like in sports? I wonder what Mottinger's is?

The saddest part in all of this is the two kids......They are the ones being affected the most.  Truly sad story regardless of who is to blame for the fires.  Just another example of how infidelity ruins more lives than anyone ever imagines at the time!!

"When we step into the outdoors, we have the privilege of standing in the presence of God through the power and majesty of His creation. That makes hunting more than a sport or a hobby. It's a calling to something greater. And that transforms the places that we stand into something more than a cropfield or a pasture or a mountain. It makes that place Hallowed Ground."

solocam, I suspect infidelity is more a symptom of her problems than the problem itself.

But I concur, what she has done to her family with all of this is the saddest part of all.  Those kids just don't know what the heck is going on.  House is gone, mom and dad don't live together any more, mom is getting chauffered around in a squad car, etc, etc.

They will forever be scarred by this.

I helped Tara when she first started thinking about hunting. I knew her from high school and was trying to be a nice person. It didn't take me long to realize that she was a liar, attention whore, and a little bit crazy. I thought maybe she had grown up since  high school, but I obviously gave her too much credit. All of this behavior is pretty characteristic of Tara. She cheated on her first husband, too, while he was deployed in Korea.

Testimony focuses on affair

Tara Andvik’s ex-lover said Thursday that when he heard about the first fire at her rural Barnesville, Minn., farm in October after their breakup, he became concerned “because I knew she’d be the type to try to frame me.” By: Mike Nowatzki, Forum Communication

MOORHEAD — Tara Andvik’s ex-lover said Thursday that when he heard about the first fire at her rural Barnesville, Minn., farm in October after their breakup, he became concerned “because I knew she’d be the type to try to frame me.”

Keith Beam, a TV producer and hunter who worked for “The Wild Outdoors” show on the Outdoor Channel, testified for about 90 minutes on the third day of Andvik’s arson trial in Clay County District Court.

Beam said Andvik first emailed him in November 2010 asking questions about editing video, and their relationship quickly heated up. He referred Andvik and her husband, Matt, to become pro staffers — independent contractors who get paid for providing video of hunting kills — for the TV show.

Beam said he and Tara Andvik were in love and agreed to divorce their spouses. He said he bought a ring and proposed to her last June, but he ended the affair in late July after he learned she had lied about filing for divorce.

After she took out a restraining order against Beam on Aug. 4 — an order that claimed he pressured her to “move the relationship from professional to intimate” — his home and cellphones “were a blur with her calling me,” he said. He obtained a restraining order against her Aug. 19, and over the next five days, she called him 64 times, he said.

Beam said the Outdoor Channel wouldn’t allow him to work for the show as long as there was a restraining order against him, and he and Andvik agreed to drop the orders on Oct. 28.

Assistant County Attorney Heidi Davies asked Beam if he was responsible for the fires at the Andviks’ farm, two of which destroyed their house and barn.

“Not in any way,” he said.

Beam also said he didn’t pay anyone $50,000 to set the fires — a claim made in three anonymous, handwritten letters mailed to Andvik, her attorney and a Forum Communications Co. reporter last month. The letters were postmarked Auburn, Wyo., and Davies told the jury on Tuesday that investigators have since determined Andvik has an ex-boyfriend living in Auburn.

“You wish you never met her?” Davies asked Beam.

“Yes,” he said.

Prosecutors have alleged that Andvik lit a series of fires on the farmstead she and her husband shared in hopes of framing Beam, 46, who lives in New Glarus, Wis.

Andvik’s defense attorney has suggested it was Beam who sought revenge for how the affair ended.

Details of the affair came to light Thursday in testimony from Beam and married couple Jay and Tammi Gregory, who own “The Wild Outdoors” program.

Beam said he met the Andviks for the first time in person at a trade show in Indianapolis in early January 2011 and introduced them to the Gregorys.

Beam denied pressuring Tara Andvik into an intimate relationship, which he described as a “misery loves company” bond in which both complained about their spouses.

Jay Gregory said he knew the relationship had progressed by around Jan. 10 when Beam showed him a sexually explicit video Andvik had sent him of herself while they were at a trade show.

“I couldn’t believe it,” he said.

Andvik’s attorney, Steven Mottinger, asked Beam if he ever told Jay Gregory that he wanted to steal Andvik from her husband.

“I could see me saying that, yes,” Beam said.

Beam said he and Andvik schemed together to plan trips so her husband wouldn’t want to or be able to attend. Beam said the affair wasn’t a working relationship, other than what they told her husband to justify their trysts.

In April, Andvik and Beam spent a week at the Gregorys’ home in Hamilton, Mo., for turkey hunting season. Beam’s video editing studio also was in the home’s basement.

Tammi Gregory said Beam and Andvik hunted in the mornings, “and then the rest of the day they were in the basement in the bedroom.” When Tammi Gregory’s father died during the week, they continued to stay at the house, she said.

The affair began to sour in mid-July, shortly after Andvik, Beam and the TV show’s other pro staffers attended a film school at the Gregorys’ home. Beam said he and Andvik had a late-night argument when both were drinking, and about three days later, he learned she hadn’t filed the divorce papers.

Jay Gregory suspected Andvik wasn’t being truthful, but Beam was a good friend and he didn’t want to tell him the woman he was in love with was “nuts,” he said.

“I told him, ‘I think you’re going down a bad road here,’ “ he said.

Tammi Gregory said she text-messaged Andvik’s husband and asked him about the divorce, and he indicated it was the first he’d heard of it.

“Everybody found out she’d been lying the whole time about Matt,” Jay Gregory said.

Jay Gregory said he considered getting a restraining order against Andvik because of the messages she started sending to him.

“She scared me,” he said.

He said he also had to tell Andvik to remove photos from Facebook that showed her holding up dead animals by the arrows sticking through them because they were drawing hate messages.

“I said, ‘You know, if you like to kill things, that’s fine, but that’s not what we’re about,’ “ he said.

Beam, whose divorce is almost finalized, said he was interviewed at length by detectives and was able to provide alibis showing he wasn’t in the area at the time of the Andvik fires.

In an apparent attempt to establish motive, Mottinger asked Beam if he was let go from the TV show before or after the fires were set. Beam initially said it was before the fires, but then said he wasn’t sure.

Mottinger asked Beam if he was upset with Andvik when the relationship began to fall apart.

“I was heartbroken,” Beam said.

Testimony in the trial resumes Monday. Judge Michael Kirk said the trial is expected to last until at least Tuesday, and possibly into Wednesday.

I would like to amend Ron White's "You Can't Fix Stupid" with a twist........"You Can't Fix Crazy".  I believe that has held true as well.

"Diligence is the mother of good luck."

"The constitution only gives people the right to pursue hapiness.  You have to catch it yourself."

"Well done is better than well said."

"Beer is living proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."

After reading the article that was my thoughts exactly!!  Allowing two married people to have an affair in their house while one would have to assume their kids are home.

Yes, she went to North High School. She was crazy then.

Anybody got a Spartan Yearbook with her senior photo? That would be awesome.
