What size of boat requires a tandem axle trailer.

It depends.  You need to take the boats weight, the motors weight, the trailers weight, and then add about 1000 lbs for cargo load.  Then look at trailer specs and determine if you need a tandem or not.  I would say most tournament type boats 19' and up are good candidates.  Most dealers put trailers under boats that are too light.  They don't take into account that the average guy carries a thousand pounds of stuff in them.  The additional cost to put an adequate trailer under a boat is trivial to the overall purchase price.

My 18ft Warrior had a single axle trailer, but I wish it had a tandem.  It seemed like an awful lot of weight on the trailer.  I also feel a little safer with the tandem, incase you blow a tire or break a bearing.  You atleast have that extra axle to get to place to fix it.
It seems that the 18-19ft range is the breaking point.  When in doubt, get the tandem.

Just remember with a tandem, there is no more moving it by hand. The nice thing about a single is if you are required to fine tune parking your trailor by hand that comes to an end with a tandem. Unless you have an inventive way to move one (would like to know for myself).

A tandem is going to go down the road much nicer for you.  Should pretty much eliminate the trailer sway or fishtail, whatever you wanna call it.
