My 12 yr old son and I caught our limit of real nice eaters Fri night. Spinners with a leach. Orange, blue, and green all worked. Went back Sat morn and did the same. We were in 5-9 feet on the edge or in the weeds. It took less than 3 hrs each time. Had to be on the windy shoreline. Many boats fished the same small bay but on the calm side and caught nothing.

Two of us fished stump on the northwest end yesterday.  We fished for about three hours without much luck.  We tried pitching jigs and cranks shallow, drifted and trolled spinners and jigged minnows.  We finally hooked into our first fish three hours into fishing and it was a northern.  Fished for four hours and caught 4 northerns, all came from jigging in about 7fow.  Overall terrible day of fishing, but still nice to finally get on the water in a boat.

Was on stump this am, can drive just about anywhere.
It is very slippery, no snow on the lake. Ice has been real good,
everywhere I have ventured.

I'm starting to think that good fishing is just a way of life at Stump Lake. Went out yesterday morning with my brother and got on some great jumbos once again. Drilled about 20 holes looking for the little shits but once we found them we put the house up and caught 23 taking home just the 'lucky' 12 that made the cut. The bite was hot from 7:15-11:30 then cooled off. We should of left then but stayed till 1 and packed up for home. We needed to be back for prior obligations or we would of stuck it out till dark looking for some eye's. Fished in 32ft of water and they liked the Lindy frosty along with the flyers. Less movement is better to get them to go right now. Jig till you see them on the Marcum and then lay off the perch do the rest.  Until next time ~ tight lines

Fishing is as usual excellent.  We never venture past 30 feet of water, but always catch our limit of perch.  Every day they want something different, but most luck with mud bugs, frostees, or plain hooks tipped with a minnow.  Jigging sticks use the buckshots, but the perch seem to prefer the dead sticks.  Walleyes have been coming every depth, find a hole with structure on the bottom, drop the buckshot and pound the bottom hard then pull up fast a few feet and stop and hold, if they are there they will come in.  If you got the patience work a chubby darter with NO bait on it, let the lure do its work, work it for awhile then let it sit up off the bottom few feet, most come in when its sitting there, once they come in start pulling up slow and steady.  You have to move around (who wants to sit in a house all day?) but once you work a large area you will start to see where they are holding and how they react at different depths.

Move, Look, Move, Look, Move, Look.

That was the ticket this weekend. In order to catch fish, there have to be fish in the area.  I tried 50 feet but didn't put my camera down. After a bout of "I must be a horrible fisherman," I decided to put in the effort. Each time I moved, I put the camera down. If I didn't see fish, I didn't even put  a line down. I tried 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and then finally at 40 feet I found perch.

A dead stick with a large minnow produced the most big fish.  I had a buckshot on the other line just to stir the fish up. Light blue with silver worked for me.

Out fishing as we speak; things are slower than normal, lots of weather changes already and I think that has slowed things down a bit. For perch, leave minnow on bottom, they are not aggressive at all and jigging makes them turn their noses up however they will suck it off the bottom. Eyes are active and the jigging action is making them not happy and are hitting very well out of aggression. Not alot of change from last week will post as stuff picks up in the comment section

Very tough weekend on Stump. Did anyone else have any success?

Started in 27 feet over a road bed. Nothing on the rattle reels all night. Fished in the morning - nothing.  Moved to 45, then 48, then 53, then 60 feet.

Drilled several holes to find movement. Moved in to 22 for evening.

Next day setup at 47 feet. A few nibbles. nothing would take the bobber below the ice. Too dark for the camera - probably small perch.
