Stainless Steel Props

I have a few questions regarding props. First off, the motor is a new 150 2-stroke Yamaha on a new Stratos 386xf (18.5 foot)  My questions are as follows: (1)What prop pitch should I use for this setup. (2) How do I know what diameter of prop to use.

FYI: the only information I can find on this factory aluminum is: 19m? I'm assuming it's a 19 pitch, but I have no idea what diameter.  Any information you can pass on as far as what stainless brands have proven themselves and what to stay away from please do so. Thanks.

Dear labman,

Click on this link, and you should be directed to www.yamaha-motor.com

http://www.yamaha-motor.com/outboard/powermatched/propeller.aspx

When you will see propeller down that page, please click on that in case you will have trouble getting there.. Once you in, try to click on those numbers based on your engine capacity.. You will find quiet few good info regarding prop's diameter & pitch as well..

Good luck..

I have a 21 pitch 14 1/4" stainless on my Stratos powered by a Yami 4 stroke. All my aluminum props and 19 pitch and 13 3/4. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replys.

Simmsjs, I was hoping you would reply since we have nearly the same setup.  If memory serves me correctly, the dealership recommended a 21 pitch.  I'm not expecting a huge jump in performance, just something a little more reliable.  The aluminum prop on there now got a little "shined" up the other evening and what a great excuse to upgrade to a stainless. Do you recall what brand you put on? Was it the Yamaha brand?

Mercury Marine has a host of excellent stainless props and I think they are all avalable with flotorq hubs that will fit yamaha / OMC / and others. I personally would start their. The Tempest Plus is a really common High performance Prop that has very good manners throught the operating range, Maybe not the best in all catagories but very good in most and typically very fast on the top end.

You could also call a custum shop like Mark Croxten or DAH and get some reccomendations, They may even a balenced and blueprinted prop on the shelf ready to go that would be a good match for your rig. You'll pay a little more but you'll be getting a much better prop! MY 21P Tempest Plus will be getting sent out to Mark Coxten sometime this summer for a rework, balence and blue printing, add cupping, and a degree or two more pitch. I should pickup about 3mph on the top and the have a much improved midrange.
