What rod (length, strength (med, mdhvy, medlight) etc) are you guys using to pitch the little cranks  // how about mimic minnows etc.   what about line that your using too?

i am not a rod snob -- -in fact the only rod that broke in my box last summer was -- name starts with a g and end with a s.  Nice warranty and they upgraded me when they returned it --- nice - but not needed --  I just need type more so than brand.

I thought baitcasters are way better for pitching light lures?....

If that's the case either you or the reel are at fault.

Free up the magnet, free up the brake, learn your thumb and free your mind.

I gotta say that I do have trouble with #4 Hornets.  #4 JSR or #5SR or SSR are in the money though.

No way, especially in head wind. I'm no slouch with a baitcaster, but they're tack drivers, not long range launchers. There's a reason surfcasters use spinning reels.

Dead straight into a wind, you're right.  Gimme even the shallowest of angles and you're not.  Good thing for me I run the boat.

Horsager, i have an article on "super-tuning" baitcasters if you're a fan of getting max distance. Quite interesting to what lengths some people go to max out their reach. Knowing you, you've already super-tuned yours!

all my baitcasters are set to free spool --  --- the bottom line even with all that they have generally heavier line on them  -- they are med/hvy rods --- they are used for MN bass fishing and bottom bouncing.   I dont care how good you are your not going to cast super light lures  jigs and  some of those light cranks that resist wind -- plus a different presentation vs a bc.

Just curious what everybody is using.

7'+ light or Med-light whether the reel is on top or bottom.  I like thin round handles for casting.  I hate palm swells and all other lumps/bumps for casting, love palm swells for trolling.  I have a St. Croix premier 7' Med-Light for the days I need to stoop to flingin' a spinning combo.  That's the rod wifey always uses when she comes along.

10/2 Power-Pro would be a given whether over or under.

I pitch with a 6' medium action.  Nothing will cast further than a spinning reel spooled with Nanofil.

Have you have good luck with that nanofil. I have a buddy swear that it breaks a hard hits and hook sets. Never questioned him all that much on it to see if it was a knot break or clean break. What size do use and knot??

I just run a clinch knot, but you have give it a lot of twists so it doesn't slip.  I retie every so often, because it will fray after a while.  I run the 12 pound, and I haven't had any breaks on hook sets.  I usually run a bout 2 feet of flourocarbon on the end as well.  It is not as strong as braid, but it doesn't give me headaches from rat's nests.

Ok cool because it made me nervous to spool it up with a few spools i purchased. It would bring tears to my eyes to snap off el whappo to frayed line. Will have to give it a try even though my tried and true is power pro 8/1 moss green.

Ahab is the king loser of pig walleyes.  Take that for what it's worth as it applies to landing fish, suggesting line, or picking rods.

+1 but swap Stradic with the Sustains and have been running 20lb PP with no issue as hooks are cheaper than cranks!!!
