Anyone intreasted in hunting in South Africa? I have tons of information on the place I went to last fall and would love to help any other FBO'ers with getting info on going on a trip like this. It is a lot less expensive as you might think. And something that you will never forget.
I have got alot of help from other people on this site with my hunts over the years so I thought I would give back.
PM me foor more info.
Brent.

You eat the meat when your there but thats only a small part of it. The workers get some and the rest of it goes to local meat markets.
It tastes AWESOME also.

Hide and horns I have had sent back and they are at the tannery right now.

To have the hide and horns dipped, packed and air frieghted to the USA was about $175 per animal.

If I may be so bold, could you PM me with the cost "Door to Door" for your trip and what species you took?  South Africa for plains game is very high on my "Bucket List" and I'm now in a position to seriously plan some hunts.  If you're not comfortable with that, no problem.  Thank You.

Not really. Just inspected by customs.
Mine arrived in Atlanta the end of December and are already at the tannery.
We hunted in August 2011

I can help out with the search too.  I took my family of four, budget was $18K for everything from leaving my house to trophies hanging on the wall.  Keep in mind airfare was nearly $8000 for the four of us.  We shot 5 animals and I elected to have them mounted in South Africa then shipped over.  3 shoulder mounts one European mount of the warthog and a full body bushbuck mount was 3600 dollars, freight was 2000.

The deal I got was a daily rate of $400/day I paid and wife and kids under 16 were free.  Most have a $180/day observer fee.  This included everything from airport arrival to departure except trophy fees and tips.

Anybody that wants to talk about it give me PM.

WSWAT is right you wont be disappointed in the adventure.  And South African Airline has free beer for the 17 hour flight.

I just got an email from my outfitter that airfare is down to $995/pp for this spring.

Beautiful animal! I've seen a few up in Namibia when I was there in September but nothing as close as you got. Really wish I could afford to take the time when I come to Africa and hunt instead of just work. I got to Cape Town the 12th of December and spent one week there getting the ship ready to work off the coast of Madagascar, left the 20th. Currently at 18.43.55S 041.11.49E, off the coast of Madagascar. The pirates have been working about 500 miles north of us but have been as far south as 100 mile south of us. Next week I'll be crew changing by charter plane from Mattajanga, Madagascar to Nairobi, Kenya. Then British Airways from Nairobi to London to Denver to home! Got to love those 30+ hour flights after doing a 12 hour shift and a 20 hour crew boat ride to the dock, then sitting in the airport for another 8 hours.
Elk hunting at 9000 ft is easy. Dragging that elk out at 9000 ft is hard!

kdm,

Did you rob a bank or what?

p.s. I hate you. We were switched at birth. I should live where you live and hunt/fish when and where you do.

I would love some information on plainsgame, caliber, optics(heard they aren't found of cranking scopes when trying to get in).  Actually trying to put one together right now.  Is it true about the warthog/swine have to be inspected when enter the US?  I heard Dakota taxidermy was the only one around here that could inspect and they were doing the taxidermy on it.

Not necessarily. A way around this would be to have the company that is handling your dip and pack of skins overseas to clean and bleach the skull and mount the pig on a plaque if just doing a euro. Once it is a finished product and clean of debris it can bypass the USDA inspection in most instances (unless you get a fish and wildlife inspector who for some odd reason decides otherwise). If you are bringing the swine hide and skull back unfinished then yes, it will be directed to a USDA approved facility and a significant fee will most certainly be charged for handling and processing of the hide/skull. Once its cleared by the USDA any taxidermist can do it. Dakota Taxidermy is a USDA approved facility, or at least they were last I heard. This same process remains true for primates and civets as well.

Nope!!  Clearing the slate of all those "me and the bank own" type bills goes a long way to making the "Fun Cup runeth over".  I now have the time and finances to realistically begin planning for some of my bucket list hunting trips.  At 40, I want to make all the memories I can, because at 60, I may not be able to.
