For those of you who live in a town where the plows have the snow gates, what do you think of them? Have they made a noticeable difference?

You can't aim a duck to death.

I live in a town of about 550 and we use one in our city.  I think they are awesome unless there is a huge snow like this last storm dumped on ND.  Here in the NW part of ND there was about 6 inches of snow.  The gate on the blade worked great not leaving a big ridge of snow at the end of the driveways.  I was in Bismarck during the last storm and at my parent's house there was a large rock hard ridge at the end of the driveway and it was a bugger to blow it out of there.  They live on a main emergency road so it was kept open and the plows just cruised on by with the gate up to hurry the process.  It does slow down the plowing from what I have seen, but it sure helps the people that don't have blower or some other means of moving the snow besides a shovel.

Bismarck has used them for quite a while. However if there is 6 inches or more they are of little use. Others will argue the point but the city made every effort to use them.

I think they work pretty well in Bismarck, if there is not too much snow as mentioned previously. This last storm dumped a lot of snow but after the last pass by the plow, the driver put it in reverse and scooped out about half the snow that was piled in my driveway.
So I didn't end up shoveling for too long. Thanks to the guys that do a fine job keeping the streets clean in Bismarck.
