I've smoked other fish but never carp was wondering if anybody has, and if there are any do's and don'ts

A cousin of mine has, tasted alright.  I'll send you his recipe if he will give it up.

i have had smoked buffalo carp...pretty good

 Harvesting fins, feathers, and furs, since 1993.

The oils and fat are what make them a good smoking fish, my Grandpa would but them in a horse trough alive and let them flush out their system for a few days then cut them up like salmon steaks and smoke them. They are very good.

That is good advice.    Purging is an important step for farmed fish producers. 

When I was a kid my Dad and some of his buddies smoked a big batch of suckers one spring, They were good.

I usually smoke em with my Hoyt. Really though I have had them smoked there good if you forget about them being carp. Soaked in water pickling salt and brown sugar for 24 hrs then smoke with hickory chips.
