Found out I had some smelly neighbors move in next door.  Whats the best way to get rid of them without smelling up the neighborhood. wacked one with pelletgun but he sprayed a little. Im thinking of a live trap, covering with a blanket and then drowning in a big bucket. Anyone have a better idea? Is it possible to shoot  them without spraying?  I think almost all of them Ive shot have sprayed.

you can shoot them without spraying.  has to be an immediate death so a shot to the head would be the deal.

If u can shoot them between the front legs at the bottom of there neck. I was told that a long time ago. I did it alot when i use to trap in the fall. It worked about 90% of the time. That area supposely dont have so many nerves. Try it.

I've killed hundreds of skunks over the years and trust me, there is NO way to reliably shoot a skunk without it spraying!   Almost never works and I've heard all the advice and tried them all multiple times.  The neck, the spine, the head  and a lot of other myths.
Best way is to use a live trap and drown them in  the nearest river or stream.   Lot sof commercial live traps availabloe.  Use cat food that smells fishy.
The BEST live trap to use is one that the animal control people use - made from a plastic pipe.  The skunk is held failry tight and apparantly can't raise its tail to spray and this one works really well.  I've meant to buy one but never got around to it.
If you live inh a city call the animal control dog pound people.

I agree with Bobkat - there is no consistent way to kill a skunk without the spraying.  I got lucky a couple of times, then the next twenty or so sprayed like crazy even though I shot them in the same place.  I think because somebody shoots one and because it didn't spray, they think they found the magic spot.  Until the next skunk.

The pipe traps work pretty well, especially around the house.

Try hiding asprin packed inside hamburger. My uncle told me it messes them up (the asprin) and kills them eventually.

bulild a box to put over your live trap. they typically wont spray if your careful putting it over the trap. then have it plumbed to hook to your exhaust pipe of your 4 wheeler or whatever and gas them. seen it done and it works really good.

The only other way you can guarantee they wont spray is to get them soaking wet, once the tail is soaked they dont have enough strength to lift it and spray. My folks had one in the window well out at their place last summer and called Burleigh County sheriff, they sprayed it with water and drug it out, No Smell.

Inject it with acetone, use about 10cc, this is about the only way if you don't want it to spray.

You can make a pole real easy and cheap using PVC pipe and a disposible syringe.

This may give you an idea how to make this and just attach it to a pvc pole the length that you feel comfortable using.  This works great in a live trap, also works good for footholds if you approach slow and talk to the animal in a calm voice.

When I was a kid I worked a summer at Scout Camp. Three of us got the great idea to kill a skunk with target arrows. It worked.

Trust me this is not  a good method to use if  you don't want the smell.

The only bad thing about a skunk is that you can only kill it once!
Yep, acetone works!  I saw a guy do it one time and it works great!
Being out in the country I dragl them way out in the field in the live trap  with a long rope on my 4 wheeler. Go slow and they don't spray.  Then  flip the trap over, and when he gets out and wanders away a bit he gets lead poisoning!   Hard to do that in town without PETA or HSUS going after you! LOL

I like some of the ideas.  Yes this is in town, a small town so i dont want to make a stink. Everyone will know its me lol. Might have to try the exaust thing first, I have every thing  I need for that ... Usually I find them in the country and a 223 works perfect in those cases. i  cant help but smile when they blow up and leave a yellow cloud. The smell doesent bother me , ive been sprayed three times so far in my life .but I dont want my neighbors mad at me. Thanks all.

We have caught many skunks in live traps. My brother has put a blanket over the trap and carried them to a water tank to drown. No spray but pray you don't trip! I have gotten lucky with one or two out of many that I have shot that didn't spray. One skunk shot with a .357 mag hunched up and shot a yellow stream about 12 or 13 feet into the air, needles to say, we didn't stick around to see if it was plain urine or not!
A tuna can with a nail hole in it has worked the best for us, especially since you can reuse it for awhile.
