Sioux Petition

I took my family to an event in Bismarck this weekend. There were some UND supporters standing outside with some "Save the Name" petitions.  I hope all their hard work pays off so they don't lose their nickname.  It would be a shame for a school to be stripped of that.

To all the Sioux fans on here.  I am a major Bison fan and I did sign that petition so you don't lose that name.  We are all from ND, so lets support each other.
Hail the Bison!  Hail the Bison!

I'm a NDSU grad. I signed it and wished them good luck but I think they are trying to ice skate uphill.

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." -Edmund Burke

"The time at which I stand before you is full of interest. The eyes of all nations are fixed on our Republic. The event of the existing crisis will be decisive in the opinion of mankind of the practicability of our federal system of government. Great is the stake placed in our hands; great is the responsibility which must rest upon the people of the United States. Let us realize the importance of the attitude in which we stand before the world. Let us exercise forbearance and firmness. Let us extricate our country from the dangers which surround it and learn wisdom from the lessons they inculcate."

i think it is more a middle finger to the NCAA and school board for bending to the PC police when the residents, alum and majority of the people it "offends" don't want the change.

It it makes it to the election in June or November, will members of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe be able to vote?

I am a lifelong sioux fan, but I don't see what good will come of this?  Sure we could get it back into law but if the NCAA doesn't budge - and they won't unless standing rock passes something - UND will be back to worrying about having no conference, no home playoff games, teams that won't play them, etc.  I don't think us passing a law will convince standing rock to do something.

if the people want to keep the nickname, they should. the NCAA has way too much say on school matters.

If that petition drive succeeds you can basically put a stake through the heart of the UND athletic department. If they "undo" what the legislature did in repealing Carlson's bill, you can say Bye Bye to the Big Sky Conference.

It's going to get interesting

Wonderful Reagan quote that says it like it is! "It isn't that Liberals are ignorant. It's just that they know so much that isn't so."

And I hope they win, too.  They have the support of one tribe.  That should be enough to keep the nickname.

The squeekiest wheel gets the grease.  Even if they are only 3%.  There should be enough supporters out there to be able to keep it.  From what I have read  all the tribes are in favor of it except Standing Rock and they won't vote on it.  They should be told either vote or you don't matter.

This country is rediculous when it comes to crap like this.  you can have 9 out of 10 peolpe for something, but if that 1 person cries loud enough then he gets his way.  Its so dumb.

Hail the Bison!  Hail the Bison!

Neither is a govt funded state institution. as ridiculous as the Redskin name is, people have the right to not buy tickets and avoid the skins. I think this name issue is ridiculous but i do see the difference in a pro team and college when regulating the issue.

Also, If put to the vote it will overwelmingly pass to keep the name, thus, flattening UND's athletic program as they are small, small fish in a giant ocean called the 'NCAA'. and, the NCAA will squash UND over this with scheduling and conference affiliation conflicts. UND sports will be dead in the water. Like it or not, other colleges simply dont need your baggage and wont deal with it in any compacity, as they have already stated!!!! A vote to keep the name will be a vote to abolish UND athletics. You can take that to the bank.
