What are building code requirements for sheetrock? I am finishing my basement, and would like to put cedar up around my boxed-in ductwork, but don't know if its legal to do so w/out sheetrock under it.

I say to hell with that pot o' gold.

Cant site code but I am watching it being done in one of our buildings. They put a subframe in with looks to be 1x2's and left about a two inch gap between duct work and framing then are in the process of attaching pine planks to that framing. Probably dont help much just thought I would add.

1/2" on walls and 5/8" on ceilings. Any storage areas under a stair must also be sheetrocked the same. If your ductwork is hanging below the ceiling, need to wrap it in 5/8" sheetrock and then cover it with cedar...the sheetrock requirement is for fire protection
