Wow, have you seen the new cases at Scheels in Bismarck for handguns? They are terrible. They are some steel/wire/mesh/diamond shaped stuff that is hard to look through if you are looking straight at it and impossible to look through at an angle.
I bought a revolver in October and they had regular glass cases. I hadn't been back until New Years Day and they had these new ones that are horrible.
I wanted to ask a salesman what was up, but the place was swamped. Anyway, I miss the old cases.

All of the stores have them.  They've lost handguns out of the old style glass cases.  I do agree it's more difficult to see what's in there in the new cases.

Yep, they are horrible in my opinion. They got them a few weeks ago. Another guy and myself were talking to one of the guys that works there and he said that all the scheels stores got them and that it was some higher up who decided to switch them.

He said none of the employees like them either.

I asked, too.  Apparently they'd had some break ins elsewhere, and the thieves broke in setting off the alarms, etc. ran in and quickly cleaned out the handguns and disappeared before the gendarmes got there!  So those grates are supposed to slow them down.  Also, the occasional pilferage as well.  I'd bet their insurance companies likely mandated that sort of thing, too.
There'll always be crooks somewhere.  All us honest people have to pay for them one way or another.   Such is life!

The glass cases were too easy for someone to sneak one while a sales guy was showing a gun to another customer from what I hear.  When a gun goes missing at those places crap hits the fan!

Certainly not a common occurance.  That said, given the nearly absolute removal of personal accountability from individuals, a business, especially a legitimate gun business had better make every attempt to safeguard themselves, even if it means that they'll miss out on a few sales.

I'm waiting for a company like Benchmade or Spyderco to get sued for selling knives that are too sharp when someone cuts their own finger and needs stitches.

This moment is a paradox, it's the oldest you've ever been as well as the youngest you'll ever be.

Reminds me of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid:

Butch: What happened to the old bank? It was beautiful!
Guard: People kept robbing it.
Butch: Small price to pay for beauty.

So someone broke into Scheels?  Or they got into the gun cases before breaking into Scheels?  Or they broke into both?  Or someone just happened to swipe one when a salesman wasn't looking (uh oh for that salesman!)?  Regardless, all but one required the front door of Scheels to be breached.

Hence, maybe the front doors should be beefed up instead of the gun cases?

All of the above have happened at one time or another.

Well, that stinks.  Oh well, guess it doesn't bother me much (the cases...thieving just sucks no matter what).  Just kinda poking a little fun about the front door.  The cases look good or could look good if there just wasn't so much display covered up.  More guns might end up getting taken during store hours because more requests will be made to open up the cases.

I like going to the Sportsman's Loft in Minot when I'm up there. Their guns are very easy to see, and I really like that the ammo is all open to the public. I don't have to ask permission or wait forever for a salesperson to shop for ammo. I know stores have different policies. Many don't make sense. I bought a gun at Walmart once. A shotgun in the factory box, with the barrel taken off, etc. They had to escort me out of the store. For a gun in pieces sealed up in a box.

Ok, fine, thats the policy, but I could buy a knife at Walmart, which is completely ready to go, and nobody cares!

I asked a guy in fargo awhile ago about this. I think it was in Nebraska, couple guys rapelled from the ceiling and broke into the cases and stole a bunch of assualt rifles and handguns and just walked out the door supposedly. I dont know how much truth there is too it but that is what I was told.
