Scheels brand rifle scopes

I was looking at the scheels paragon riflescope 4-16x56 30mm tube with the ballistic drop reticle ( I can't remember what they actually call the reticle).  Anyway, it was priced at $400 and it is similar (not the same) to my Leupold's with the varmint hunter reticles (which I really like) but half the price.  Question is>>>>>>have any of you bought one of these? I looked through it at the store but it is too hard to tell the light gathering capabilites in low light conditions and clarity, etc. I am just wondering if it would be worth the try for the money or not.  Any reviews for all of you would be nice!

I was in the same boat a year ago.ended up buying scheels paragon in the 4-16x56. Milidot. I do love the scope. Couldn't notice a difference but I've also never owned or used a leupold or zeiss. Bottom line for the money I'm VERY pleased

Looking at the Cabelas spring catalogue.   Lots of their won branded scopes there, too.  Wonder who makes all these scopes for the big stores?
Not that I need any more scopes or rifles (maybe a bigger gun safe) but I'm going to show my ignorance with this question?
What is bigger, a 1 inch or 30 mm tube?   I suppose all my scopes are the same........the usual ?1 inch?

The guy at scheels told me that the scopes were made in Korea or japan or somewhere in Asia.  He also told me that Leupold internals come from overseas and they are assembled in the USA, hence made in Oregon USA.  Any truth to that? I figured that they were completely made in the USA

Leupold owns/makes Redfield.

Pretty sure scheels scopes are just someone elses design, rebranded. Find out who designed/markets the same scopes and you will be able to get more information.

I was looking online and the name Paragon came up, but I'm not sure if they make them or who they are. I guess that's not really any help, but thought maybe someone else could confirm or deny that.

I think the paragon is the model type like vx-3, monarch, black diamond, etc.

I have now... 4? scheels scopes... it might be 5..... also my dad runs one on his 7mm Ultra, and my brother in law runs them on his .243 and 30-06.... I have had very good luck with mine on my 7mm, and the reticles seem to be accurate to the 600 yard mark.... there are quite a few older threads about the Scheels scopes over the last year or so..... general consensus was that majority of people were having great luck with them.

Thanks for the reply everyone.  The last couple years I have been putting LR 6.5-20 VX-3's with the VH reticles but they are spendy!  I have a couple of guns begging me to put scopes on them.  that is why I am most curious.

I have seven Scheels Hunter Series rifle scopes; one is a 3.5-10X42, two are 4.5-14X42 and four of them are 6-18X42, and my son also has a 6-18X42. I like the quality and warranty for the price.

What keeps me from buying a Scheels scope is that when you ask them specifics, such as who makes the various components....they won't tell you, and that is a huge red flag. Like someone else mentioned,  the conversation goes like this with when you ask them who makes the components...

"They are made in Asia like every other scope."
Then you ask, "So if all scope components are made in Asia, why are some better than others? Must be the assembly then?...who assembles them?"
Sales persons reply's, "I don't know, they don't tell us."
You reply, "What?????"

I'm a believer that you can put a piece of $hit in a box and put a guarantee on it....but all you get is a guaranteed piece of $hit.  Guarantee or not, I can't get myself to buy one.

I have a very good friend that works at Scheels. The company pushes them to sell the Scheels line of products because their profits are much higher on those products.

Buy the best you can afford.
