Save The Elk - Graphic Photos...Just so you know.

I thought I'd share.  More and more we hear of the elk populations out west taking a hit due to the increase in wolf populations.  This site seems pretty factual so I thought I'd share:

Some amazing footage there. I've seen the majority of those videos on the discovery channel though.

hunttomuch, do you see very many wolves around your area?

All I have are those pesky little coyotes around my place. I'm pretty sure they're afraid of my dog though. And yesterday he chased a rottweiler and a half pitbull half german shepard out of my yard,.....good boy Buster!

Here is a cool video that explains the need for management that is available through the site. Very common sense approach, to bad a lot of people don't understand it.

Good video.  Definitely an interesting topic.  I have been reading Eastmans magazines for a while now and many people writing into the magazine and the Eastmans themselves have commented on how wolves are becoming a major threat to elk and deer populations.

Josh
I've never seen a wolf but this year I did hear them all day while elk hunting.  Hard to get a bull to bugle.  I have come across a couple of kills while cat hunting and they always seem to just eat the butt.  I think they are the worst thing to happen to this state for elk and mule deer EVER.  I wish they were gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dead animals don't need fur anyway!!!!!!!!!!

It pretty much makes me sick to my stomach that the wolf population has been allowed  to become so out of control!

Don't get me wrong, I like wolves, but they need to be managed like all other animals. Obviously we have a big problem on our hands as sportsman and the problem looks to get worse before it gets better.

The kill is the satisfying, indeed essential, conclusion to a successful hunt. But, I take no pleasure in the act itself. One does not hunt in order to kill, but kills in order to have hunted. Then why do I hunt? I hunt for the same reason my well-fed cat hunts...because I must, because it is in the blood, because I am the decendent of a thousand generations of hunters. I hunt because I am a hunter.- Finn Aagard

Makes me pretty happy when I read these reports.  I hunt elk exclusively in the Lolo zone 10/12.  The wolves have the run of the place and it's so rugged it's hard to catch up with them until they make calling/baiting/something legal.  I don't care if they issue hunting tags, I think they would be hard to hunt out there.  I would rather actually see a chopper come in and mow them down to restart the elk population growth immediately.  This will be the first year in a long time that I will not be bow hunting or rifle hunting elk in Idaho and the wolves help seal that deal.  I'll be back out there probably next year, but I will anticipate a much tougher hunt again.  2 horrible winters since 96 and mix in the increased wolf populaton since 03 along with the ruggedness and that zone will probably be pretty quiet for a couple of years.

definately a cool video of the eagles hunting wolves!

Hmmm... Hunting wolves with an eagle in the U.S.? That would go over like a fart in church!
