if everything is loosey goosey you can half ass the manufacturing process and still have things line up and be accurate.

cheap way to "line up" the bolt  saves lapping but their bolt has to fit and if it is off that is why the minut float as they described. the adjustable  barrel would also help with the slop in the bolt. .
As long as caliber bolt face is the same then multi-guns can be made with one action  example 270 change to 243 and install spacer block in the mag and a stop for bolt travel

Unfortunately, most of your rifle enthusiests on this site very strong anti- Savage.

I personally love the product and highly recommend them over all, and I do mean ALL out of the box makes of rifles on the market today.

There is a reason Savavge has OWNED just about every long range title for several years now for straight factory rifles. Last I heard, which was about 9 months ago, Savage had won the title in all but 3 compititions in the last 3 years. The standing joke is they are going to rename it the Savage Division!!

I've been toying with the idea of buying or building a long range varmint/target rifle for a few years now.  It sure seems a guy can spend a ton of money in a hurry and I'm not sure you get the bang for the buck.

Cynical you can get a long range varmint with a Savage.  Look at E. R. Shaw.  He builds rifles on a Savage action.  Buy yourself a 6.5 Creedmore, then order a 22-250 barrel in 1/8 twist with a long throat from Shaw.  Then you always have the Creedmore to go back to if you want real long range.    I am shooting 75 gr AMax in my AR15 right now and energy at 600 yards is nearly double a factory 22-250 in 55 gr.  I think I am buying a  Shaw barrel for my 22-250 and hope to get that bullet running 3200 fps.

They say you can't load the long 75 AMax in an AR, but I am up to 2650 with no pressure yet in my 16 inch barrel.  I have a new 20 inch with 1/8 here, but the hand guard will not be in for a couple of days.  When I went from the 20 down to the 16 inch I lost 250 fps with 50 gr VMax.  I hope to get the 75 gr to 2800 fps for coyote.

So I like Savage ------ and Remington, and Winchester, and -------------

Just helped a buddy build a semicustom 22-250 off a savage.  Have less than a $850 into the rifle and he has groups in the .25's to .5's.

Have Fred Moreo(savage sharp shooters supply) time the action and you won't have quite a rough feel to it.

Howa makes a nice rifle also, just bought a .223 12 twist for my 9year old daughter.  I like the new two stage trigger and they have some nice features.  $550 for stainless hogue might be worth a look.

Yes you can spend alot on a custom rifle, but it is still one of the cheapest hobby out there.  There are lots of options out there you just need to decide what you want.  My buddies 22-250 doesn't shoot as well as my custom 260.  But is $2500 increase worth it to you?  Only you can make that call and what you like to spend you money on.

I have a Savage Edge and was wondering if there is anyway to adjust the trigger pull.  It's about 6 pounds right now.  The only way that I can see if to shorten a spring that is connected to the trigger.  I looked around at some of the hardware stores in town, but nobody carries a spring like that.  I also called Savage to see if I could get a replacement spring just in case I goofed this one up, and they said they could only ship parts like that to FFL dealers.  Do I want to mess with it?

I have a longerish range 308 that I put together from a savage 243 varmint that is fun to shoot. Its accurate and almost no recoil. I replaced the barrel myself, added comp trigger myself and replaced the stock (added a bunch of lead). Ive got maybe 1200 into it, not counting glass.

People that pay 2-3x as much for the same accuracy like to pick on Savage, because Im sure it hard to accept that they spent so much more for a gun that doesnt shoot any better than many stock Sav's. Ill admit that most savages wont win any beauty contests, but thats not what I care about anyway.

If you take the time you can drill and tap the trigger then cut the spring and adjust the tension to where you want it  but a good machinist can do it.  I did that to a 788 and it breaks clean at 3 lbs.  If you don't know what you are doing then you ruined the assembly.

I have no issues with savage except the stockdoesn't fit well so I could just as well buy a gun that does fit instead of having an extra stock sitting around. a good stock will set you back a couple hundred plus the bedding and materials

Funny the bashing that does go on this site about Savages. But all the bashers agree that they do shoot accurately. Thats all I care about.

I had a 22-250 that I spent big bucks(for me anyway) on years ago that I thought shot well. I then sold it and bought a cheapo Savage that shot circles around the big money gun. I have nothing bad to say about Savage. Their making an accurate gun at an affordable price. Some people can't afford to spend the big bucks on a "nice" gun so they end up skimping in other areas with a Savage accuracy isn't gonna be one of them.

I don't have anything against savages, but I like the 700 action better.  I started with 700 actions and thats what I have always bought since then.

I own one in a (Savage/Stevens)223, 243, 7-08, 308 and 300 mag.  Had a 30-06 and a 7mm mag at one time.  They are without a doubt the best rifle to own for the price.  The issue is the looks and stigma that comes with carrying one.  I have to say that the accuracy and dependablity is great.  Good rifle for first time shooters and a great rifle to buy if money is tight or you want a $500 scope.

I own a savage axis .308 and I have a barska huntmater pro optic so I have a total of $320 invested... worked my own trigger.  gun shots under 1'' groups all day long. Best group was .39 4 shot group at 100 yds. Best gun I've ever owned for the money, hands down...

jmidjet, I sent you a pm concerning your trigger concerns.

All you guys shooting sub.5moa groups need to start entering some comps.  With numbers like that you are going to win every time.  I would love to see some picks of these groups just for my viewing pleasure.  that barska sounds awsome does it even have the cool lines for shooting way out there.
