Had a bit of a mishap with a couple tackle boxes and got a few cranks with alot of rust.  I don't really want to throw em, I plan on replacing the hooks, but is there any way to get the rust off the bodies without damagind the paint?  Also what do you guys use to prevent rust in your tackle boxes?

I just make sure that my cranks are dry when I put them back in the compartments with the others whether it be letting them sit out for a while or using a towel to dry them off.  If I'm out fishing in the rain, soon as I get in, take everything out and dry lures, etcc.. before putting back.  Never had a rust problem.

It's a calling to something greater. And that transforms the places that we stand into something more than a cropfield or a pasture or a mountain. It makes that place Hallowed Ground."

whitetails,

I took the finest steel wool you can get and it cleaned them up pretty darn decent.

Sucks man, been there!

Use that magic eraser cleaning pad to remove the rust from the plastic bodies.  To help prevent rust I scatter those silica or desicant beads all over my tackle box. (those little clear beads that come in the packets with shoes or bags of jerky to absorb moisture.

I also try to put my cranks back in the plano boxes when dry only.  IF I'm going through a lot of cranks and need to replace a bunch I will do this before I place them back in the plano box:

Leave about 5' of line off the end of the rod and give the crank a few whips around in a circle (drying cycle) with the rod/reel.   Place the crank in its box.  Then when I get home I will leave all the plano boxes open that I was working out of.   Let them air dry and close them up when you think they are dry.

There is also a product out there that when placed in each crank box will abosorb moisture, but if you follow the above you shouldn't need it.   I haven't needed to use that product  yet.
