posted by: Walleye Wrangler. I shot my deer last year on Sep. 5th and it was hard horned and clean as a whistle. The next night after there was a nicer buck came in on the trail cam full velvet. This is the 2 weeks when they all peel it off. Kind of luck of the draw if your trophy will have velvet or not, after opening week you almost better forget it tho!
