Getting stuck out in the rough and lots of ground to catch up puts a guy behind right away. I am actually fair at putting. Chipping is something every golfer in the world could get better at. Which reminds me, I would benefit from some wedge upgrades as well.

In my younger days bogey golf was usually pretty honest book keeping. Later in life I would get that one mulligan a round and shoot in the high 40's. Good enough if you ask me. Still feel like you aren't wasting your time and enjoying that 1 out of every 4th good shot! I don't enjoy the game if I'm shooting in the 50's and higher. It isn't fun then so I just tell everyone I'll drive the cart and make sure I keep the ice cold...by taking beers out of the cooler. Actually, when I'm playing good I don't even enjoy a cool beverage. So I guess everyone knows when Tim is playing bad!!!

Right now, I know I'd have to get a bigger cooler with how my game is.

I'm what you consider a bogey golfer. My current handicap is 18. Never lower than 14. It's where it is now due to paying less often. I had to play an awful lot ot get it down to 14. Actually bogey golf, if you're counting strokes honestly and following the rules of the game is way better than average but not what most consider "good" golf.

Too many of us amateurs focus way too much on hitting drivers. You will take many more strokes off your game by concentrating on the short game. Learn how to get chip shots close and work on putting so you seldom, if ever, three putt and you will be surprised at how you can improve your handicap.

I was basically a bogey golfer. I could pull some low rounds out but not regularly. Never had a lesson in my life and I even shaked my own slice! Thought I was going to have to play like that guy on Caddyshack 2 by standing 90 degrees to the pin.

Golf is a very fun game. I miss it a lot. Probably will play more again when I get older because I will most likely have to slow down on hunting and fishing. Maybe not, we'll see. Actually, one of the major reasons I quit playing is my dang swing has left me and I can't seem to get it right by myself. I need to pay the piper and get someone to watch me. I'm all messed in the head and even though the swing looks good to folks watching the result sure doesn't reflect it! Another reason, I needed to upgrade clubs. I had no driver (hated my old one and just used a 3 wood). Kinda a shame, we have a nice electric golf cart sitting out in the shed doing nothing other than joy rides out in the country on a summer day. Have to get back into the swing of things (pun intended).

Anyway, yeah, Tiger is a force. Never will understand his mental toughness but I'm with Tessa, I actually enjoy watching good competition. Never understood those that follow teams that always win or individuals that always perform. I like it when things are nip and tuck. I cheer for Phil over Tiger just because I like watching the person who is a media darling or the best to get beat. I'm an old Fred Couples fan. Also watched Floyd back in the day. Yeah, I guess you could say I was cheering for a guy who won often (Floyd) but he wasn't a dominate force like Tiger has been.

We'll see how Tiger responds. Gonna make Golf a major draw this year, that's for sure.

posted by: Farnorth. I play the game regularly. I am not "good" by any definition but I can play well enough that I don't embarass myself even when I play with truly good players. To anybody that plays the game, the professionals have skills that are hard to fully explain to those who don't play. If you've never played the game, you should give it a try. It is amazing that something so hard can be so addicting.

The incredible thing about Tiger is how far above the other "best" players he is. I can't think of another player in any other sport who so outclassed EVERYBODY else. Jordan might be the greatest basketball payer of all time but the gap between him and the rest is smaller than Tiger and the rest of the field of golfers.

This deal is so big for Tiger because over 90% of his career earnings have come from endorsements. Time will tell how that shakes out. Kobe got past a lot of his image problems. Can Tiger?

With my limited knowledge of the game, I think there two kinds of people that follow Tiger Woods. I think there are "the golfers" and then there are those that follow him a bit, because they are intrigued by him (i.e. non-golfers like me). I think his popularity will probably be hurt more among the legion of golfers that follow him.

It seems to me that golf is a "gentleman's game", and that people in the sport are not going to look kindly on Tiger and his "transgressions". I just do not think there will be as much leniency as there is compared to other professional sports like the NBA or NFL. Having said that, I believe many people in this world make bad decisions, sometimes even tragic ones, but I think we all deserve an opportunity to change and do better as well.

Personally, I hope Tiger can get his life back in order and continue a brilliant golfing career. However, at the end of the day, it is all none of my business either. =o)

Tiger Woods just lost an endorsement.

PepsiCo's (PEP) Gatorade division said today it is discontinuing its Gatorade Tiger Focus sport beverage, CNBC reported. The company said the decision had nothing to do with the recent hoopla surrounding the golfer, but that it was a part of a streamlining strategy the company came up with months ago.

"We decided several months ago to discontinue Gatorade Tiger Focus along with some other products to make room for our planned series of innovative products in 2010," Gatorade told CNBC in a statement.

Shares of PepsiCo were down today 82 cents, or 1.3%, to $63.41.

Tiger Focus was the first Gatorade drink to be named specifically for an athlete. The drink contains 25% more electrolytes than regular Gatorade, with 7 grams of carbohydrates per 8-ounce serving, 25 calories, 0 grams protein, 135 milligrams of sodium and 40 milligrams of potassium.

Tiger will lose sales-based royalties as a result. Instead of getting paid a straight-up fee, Woods received a royalty based on sales, CNBC said.

Gatorade Tiger Focus was launched across the U.S. in March 2008, as the only Gatorade with theanine. Theanine is a chemical found in green tea, and it is used to reduce stress and anxiety.

"It's one of the reasons people drink tea," Dr. Jack F. Bukowski, a scientist with the Nutritional Science Research Institute, an industry-based nonprofit organization that studies nutritional supplements, told the L.A. Times in May. "The combination of the caffeine and the L-theanine gives people the same amount of energy as caffeine alone but less of a jittery-ness."

PepsiCo does not break out sales for Gatorade specifically, but word is the division generates about $5 billion in annual sales, Crain's reported. Beverage Digest estimates that Gatorade's sales volume fell 18% for the first half of 2009. Gatorade had seen sales climb between 12% and 18% a year since 2001, when PepsiCo bought parent Quaker Oats.

I mean, I could see a few of them, but I don't think anyone who sponsored him, or really anyone who is a fan of him likes him because they consider him a stand-up guy. They like him because he wins, and I have a hard time seeing his bigger sponsors like Nike ditch the best golfer of his time unless all of this gets to Tiger and he starts to play bad. I really can't see it.

Anyway, this makes me smile because I always have disliked Tiger very much. And it doesn't really help the rivalry between Tiger and Phil either does it?
