Nope, front rest, rear bag, 5 shots about as fast as I could single load them. As to the all in one big red square, that's not out of the realm of possibility, the above group was with virgin brass. A partial neck size for slight crush fit to get everything straightened up as it chambers often does shrink things a bit. Interresting, this thing recoils a fair bit less than a similarly weighted 7-08 pushing the same bullet at roughly the same speed, give or take 50FPS. The 7-08 has an honest to goodness quality recoil pad, the old mauser has a plastic buttplate. Need to figure actual case capacity now and refind quickload data to see what exactly I'm running for pressure as I'm guessing lower than what I run the 7-08's at, 'tis the only explanation I can think of for the significantly reduced recoil, I just don't think stock geometrey can soak all of it up.

posted by: mauserG33-40. Horsager that is a very high quality rifle now and 60 years ago. The 7X57 It was developed around 1893 and still is a very good cartridge. Winchester made some of thier pre 64 Model 70's in the 7X57 along with several other rifle manufactures but the quality of your rifle is far better than most of these.

All I can say is that is a job well done with a 4 X scope with a Post reticle. That is easier said than done even with high quality target rifles. Did you have it clamped down in a vice ?
