You can have MySpace, Facebook and I think Twitter as private or as open as you like. For example, mine used to be set where I wouldn't even show up in a search on Facebook or on Google (at least, just the Facebook page). Therefore, you only add the people you want. Then, if you get multiple friends, you can customize it so you can let only some friends see your pictures, or comments or personal information, etc. You can make it so no one can see what photos you have been tagged in. Of course, people may still be able to recognize you, but they wouldn't be able to click on the picture and verify that is you. So, I don't think you get a lot of real bad "teeth nashing" unless you bring it on yourself. As far as pictures go, it's the same as it's always been. Just don't do anything stupid while a camera is around like Michael Phelps.

I would suggest that you uses as many third party web sites as you can. I work in media currently and I can tell you the more exposure you can get the better. There is no bad way to get the word out.
