I once missed a 160" class full velvet mule deer at 4 yards. Yes 4 yards. Pulled my bow back and let the arrow fly. Never even looked threw my peep. I was 13 at the time. Man wish I could have that shot back!

I shot my old man's rain gauge at about 50 yards with my BB gun when I was around 7, I never thought in a million years I'd hit it.......my butt still hurts.
Best way to make an impossible shot is to aim at something you truly would never want to hit. I've done it with everything from eggs to arrows. Always same old thought crosses your mind when the ammo is halfway to the target "oh my God am I in trouble now".
Best longest shot with my bow, 62 yards on a coyote that had been hunting a rabbit. I was watching him for 10 minutes from high on the river bank. Rabbit takes off again, coyote chasing and he remembers I'm still there, looks up at me, frozen, from the only opening around. Arrows on its way and you can see it in his eyes that he knows he's in trouble. Priceless.
haha 215 with a bow.

My farthest is probably 40 with my bow and 400 with rifle. I think alot of people who dont use range finders, probably assume theyre shoot at like 500 yards and its more so like 300

Yes and no... those who don't use a gps, yes I would agree.
Problem is... those of us who DO use one are thrown in the same boat with the kind that youre talkin about.

Like I was sayign before hand... I noted 56-580, because I was so worked up about the shot I forgot to make a marker until 20-30 paces away from where I shot.
Still can recal that kill... the bullet took enough time to get there.... I recovered from the recoil of the rifle, deer was still in the optic... I watched the thing fall thru the scope.

Well, yeah or gps i guess. I was referring to the people that just assume something is alot farther than it actualy is and they never pace if off, range, or gps it, after they shoot it.
He told me to run back to the truck and get a salt shaker. I was like why? He told that he had to salt the bullet so the meat don't bad before we get there to skin it! Still not sure how far it was but must have been a loooong ways! ;)

re: longest shot

posted by: Allen.
Geothermal Said:
I bet these stories wouldn't be so far fetched if the question was how close did you shoot at a deer and not hit it. For me it was a 30 or 40 yard standing broad side shot at by far the biggest buck I have ever laid a bead on. I was walking against the wind in a snowstorm when he apeared from nowhere right in front of me. I pulled up and squeezed off only to hear a click. The fireing pin was froze on my old stevens bolt action 30-30 . I was about 15 years old and I just can't forget about it even though I wish I could.

Hah! We all have a long and not so distinguished list of stories like that.
