They are calling for over a inch of rain north of grand forks. The snow is going to go fast. A early melt like this is a good reason for draining the up stream res. a lot sooner. If we could get a good melt this week and then freeze up for a couple of weeks would be perfect.

re: Latest Flood Outlook March 5th 2010...

posted by: murdock1978. I swore I had it in there. I did some editing to my post so I must have cut and, well, never paste.

By the sounds of it six inches could fall in some areas. Biggest snowfall is said to be 50 miles to the east and west of line drawn from Dickinson to Garrison.

re: Latest Flood Outlook March 5th 2010...

posted by: murdock1978. Yep, the four week drought and ideal conditions thus far have been pretty kind. Outlook is kinda uncertain other than most of us will be getting some sort of precip and in some sort of accumulation. Looks at the moment Dickinson and south to the east of Dickinson is at the moment pegged for up to or maybe a tad more than 4" of snow. That doesn't take into consideration of the off and on light rain.

The rest of the area looks like somewhere around 2". Further north you go, the less the snow. Some rain here and there as well. This is data pulled from model runs that aren't quite jiving yet. We'll see what's up in the next forecast or one after that.
re: Latest Flood Outlook March 5th 2010...

posted by: yelowjackt. I'm in the Air National Guard and we have been told that we are already working with civilian officials about the Red River Valley. We all filled out paper work already, basically signing our spring away if the flood gets out of control of the individuals that have already volunteered. I don't mind helping out but I hope I can do some ice out northern fishing before they call on me!

re: Latest Flood Outlook March 5th 2010...

posted by: Jig-em-up-Josh.
Take a kid hunting instead of hunting for your kid.
It will be interesting to see what takes place up here in the DL basin.

I am not a local here so I have don't have an "emotional" attachment to this issue like most do. My wife criticized me for looking at topo and soils maps and figuring elevation before buying our home. She is tnow hankful now that I had done my homework before we bought our home here.

The spring will be fine for some, but really bad for others up here.
