posted by: elkhunt. Awesome. I wished I could have seen the look on her face. I took my niece (10) two weeks ago and couldn't buy a bite for her. Forgot about the white bass my buddy had told me about so felt pretty bummed. She still seemed to have fun though.

posted by: Sportsman. I think it is more like beginners luck. My son and I always used to joke about the luck of the spongebob rod that she used to have. It had no drag at all and wouldn't cast with any line heavier than 6 pound test. She cought more fish on that rod. If she wasn't fishing, my son and I would actually fight over the rod. It seemed that 75% or more of our bites always came on that rod. Of course we lost a lot of fish due to not having any drag. For Christmas, I bought my daughter a new rod. It is a cheap Firebird rod and reel, but I bought it for her because it is a full sized rod so she can learn to cast better - and because it is pink (she has a major thing for the color pink). She catches even more fish now with the pink rod than she did with the spongebob rod. I love it because it keeps her interested in the sport. What more could a guy ask for?

Speaking of gifts that I have given her, I bought her a 22 for her birthday (pink of course). We went out to shoot it and that is when I discovered that she lacks the ability to close one eye to shoot. She cannot focus down the sights with both eyes open. I did buy her an eye patch to use for now, and that does the trick, but is there any exercise or anything I can do to help her be able to close one eye? I never had this problem with my son.
