I use cash for nearly everything under 5 or so K. Ask Permo, he hates it on touney weekends when paying his part and no cash is found in his wallet. I had a card that was 3 years over its date in my wallet and didnt know it. Written only checks for monthly bills as well. Debit card use is only average of 1x/month.

CCs arent evil and they serve a purpose. I personally dont like the idea of paying on the 30th what I bought on the 5th, just my personal opinion. Alot easier to watch spending when it is green and rapidly depleted from your wallet vs stacking up receipts that dont get tallied until it is too late.

Nothing more than preference. Dect is debtr plain and simple.. Making 40k a year and having 200 k in debt including car, house, toys, CC's, etc is a bit daunting and I would imagine scary to say the least.

re: Credit Card Act - Just Got My Cabelas Notice

posted by: Farnorth. Close Walleye, but I wouldn't go that far. Simon is overreacting. He'll learn that things aren't so simple. When I was one month out of college, I thought I knew everything just like he does.

There is nothing wrong with people using credit cards for purchases that they want to make that will take several months to pay for. Granted, they could just wait and save up the cash for the purchase but the cost isn't increased greatly by using the card. Provided they keep their spending under control.

Example: That new Lowrance Unit that you want for the boat that you can pay for in the next two months. You could wait and purchase it in September at nearly the end of the open water season or you could put it on a card and pay for it in the same time but get to use it now. There's nothing wrong with that.

re: Credit Card Act - Just Got My Cabelas Notice

posted by: walleye101. I do agree with what Simon is saying on this issue. I have no problem with credit cards if people dont go crazy and carry a huge balance on them. I use them quite frequently but they are paid off every month. It is good for people to have credit cards and use them responsibly to work on their credit scores and build a credit history. I do not understand why people would purchase big ticket items and just let them ride on their credit cards, like Mark had said, if you know you can't pay that bill at the end of the month, you should not be out there buying things.
Just really in my opinion takes some common sense and financial responsibility and it's not that hard to not have credit card debt.

re: Credit Card Act - Just Got My Cabelas Notice

posted by: Farnorth. Simon is absolutely correct about debit cards. They are a completely different animal than a credit card. They do clear through the credit card network but the merchant fees are very different. I could give you guys about a page long discussion about the differences and why debit cards can never replace credit cards but it would be quite boring.

Suffice it to say that the idea that a debit card won't work if you don't have money in the account is false. There are holes in the system. Furthermore, the debit cards create much more risk for the banks and they are very careful how they manage them. Daily spending limits are generally set low ($500) and increasing them much requires either a very friendly banker or hefty average balances.

re: Credit Card Act - Just Got My Cabelas Notice

posted by: fishhunter.
and using credit cards for needs is a little different than most of our society that just piles money on them for toys and doesn't have the money to ever pay them off that is more the problem I am speaking on....

Tim i don't think that the way you use your card is wrong....educated people usually have good reasons for using credit...but most of todays america is not educated as we well know

These bank cards are backed by the credit card companies. In fact most of them say Visa or Mastercard right on them. They are the same thing as a credit card with the difference being that it automatically comes from your bank account instead of getting a bill at the end of the month. Mark makes is sound like any form of plastic is wrong, when the difference is not that great. And what if you are traveling and need car repairs, but don't have a lot of money in your bank account to access with your bank card? Then according to Mark, you must settle down there until you can afford to pay cash for the repairs? I am not a fan of credit cards either, but I don't see them as the "EVIL avoid them at all cost no matter what or your an idiot" like Mark does. Credit cards do have thier place. If you have some eternal paranoia about using them, then don't use them. Just don't off about it to everyone else.

re: Credit Card Act - Just Got My Cabelas Notice

posted by: mauserG33-40.
marksimon30 Said:
I dont understand it.....anywhere you can use a credit card you can use a check card???? anyone who says you can't is a liar....sportsman all those things you said can purchased with a check card....or is this day and age you can probably use an e-check by giving them your account and routing number

mark you mean a debt card right ? It debts your account for the amount of the purchase but you must have the funds in the accounts right? It just replaces the need to carry a check book.

re: Credit Card Act - Just Got My Cabelas Notice

posted by: Sportsman.
