posted by: fullrut. Nope. I remember him digging out the wad from the last catalog. We did it in the basement so there's no chance of a slug. I actually been hit by wads dove hunting before at over ten yards. My best guess is your table salt dispersed rather fast. Dad did load his own trap shells, so it could have been a little hotter than the normal load.

I think Dad did the old bait and switch with a slug and I see nothing wrong with that. Back in the day, I dumped the shot and replaced with table salt. Would not kill a bird at ten yards. Maybe it clumped and I missed; I don't know. The wad floated down very near by. At point blank, this load destroyed a Pepsi can. Never tested it on the patterning board.

posted by: SHORTHAIRSRUS. Didnt discovery channel do the test - put the finger in the shot gun and see what happens. If I recall it expanded the barrel slightly and it blew the hand arm to pieces. If I was to grab a barrel and that said barrel was placed against my skin on the side of my body - I may live for a while. The shotgun would suffer some damage. The energy of the charge+velocity would be less due to the blockage on the end of the barrel vs. a 4 foot shot When I say less - were talking very little in terrms with todays barrels.
