it might have been a 60-70 pound snapper, they get that big, but if it really took off, most likely a huge northern, with a small chance of a lake sturgen or a huge cat that ran 30 pounds or better, where were you?

there are lake sturgen in the red river basin, during floods and in the bigger rivers, fish can move anywhere in the watershed as long as it dosn't include going up a dam like baldhill. lake sturgen are found in detroit lakes, which flows to the red, and around 1900, it was famous for 100 pounders.

you can tell it's a lake sturgen because they don't have the shoval face, and are stockier.

Was fishing the sheyenne today and had a very large northern smack my 10 inch walleye that had hit my jig and take it to the middle of the river and sit with it for about 3 minutes or so before the steady pressure brought him back to the shore where he showered me with water and gave me my walleye back.  The teeth marks on the walleye went from behind the gills to the base of the tail.  To quote the river monster guy  "Bloody Big Fish!!!"  I have no doubt that fish could break 20 lb line.

20 lb. power pro is almost strong enough to tow a car. I've pulled the boat backwards in river current with it from a snag. There's no way a fish would snap it in an instant. You would have to have absolutly zero drag set which ive never seen a fisherman to have there reel set for zero slippage , locked tight, that would be stupid. This line is so strong I don't see a fish breaking it that easy, at least your reel should have slipped until it had no line left. This sounds like a fish story to me. Or else the knot was not tied right and the knot gave away.

pretty sure any big northern could snap that in a second.  it depends how they hit it.

I've had at least 5 pike bite-offs using powerpro and jigs this year. Those sharp teeth can cut right through it.

Yep, cut not broke most likely.

A pike will cut PowerPro or any braid in an instant.  No effort, no problem.  Sort of spooky actually.

the drag was set so a fish could have pulled out line. I didnt have a leader on so i think thats why it broke
