Looks like the man died on the 2nd of this month....

Makes you think... this man, and the men that followed him fought tooth and nail against evil.... straight from the depths of hell, and came out the other side.

May he and all of our fallen military members rest in peace....

I get goose bumps just thinking of it.

I second your closing sentence.

RIP

He was a fantastic officer and natural leader..........as a former enlisted sailor those types of officers are few and far between.

Sorry, but I am a John Boehner when I read his quote and think of him reciting it (I watched several of his interviews).  This seriously waters the eye:

Despite the many accolades he had received, Winters remained humble about his service.[60] During the interview segment of the miniseries Band of Brothers, Winters quoted a passage from a letter he received from Sergeant Mike Ranney, "I cherish the memories of a question my grandson asked me the other day when he said, 'Grandpa, were you a hero in the war?' Grandpa said 'No… but I served in a company of heroes…'"

Same here... it's amazing how strong of a family those men became. They fought for each other to survive... thats a bond you can NEVER break.
Heck, even in the USAF I felt that  "2nd" family presence... you get to know some of the boys that you serve with even more than your blood relatives.

Heard about this a couple days ago and it made me put in Band of Brothers again. Seen it over 10 times now. Best mini series and war epic ever made.

I am going to buy it after reading this.  Watched them all but don't own it.  Just got new TV so this could make for some serious couch time now.

May he RIP!  What a life story he had battleing for his life in WWII.   I can't imagine losing that many friends/brothers.  Mr. Winters is an American legend in my mind.  Right up there with the likes of all revolution & frontier  names we learned in grade school.

My dad was in the 101st airborn in Korea.  He died just before Band of Brothers came out.   I'm not sure how he would have reacted to it.  The mini-series was so well done I'm not sure he could have watched it around other people.   He never liked talking about his time in Korea.  I know he killed quite a few people over there.  My mom brought out some of his letters from Korea, in a few he described some details of a few things that happened.   We all owe those who sereve a great deal, a price words can't describe.

I have not seen Band of Brother, but will be checking it out soon. It is hard to fathom the sacrifices that so many gave.
