I have 2, both in 270, one was my late wife's.  One out of the box would shoot under and inch, sometimes well under.   On the other I had to do a little stock work to get it under an inch.  I also set the trigger pull to what I like on both.   I like mine and would buy another if price and caliber are right.

I have three 700's, one in the ADL that I bought back in highschool in a .243. Been a great rifle. It's my go to gun, because I KNOW that if what I am shooting at is within 400 yards, it's dead. It shot sub MOA out of the box, and continues to do so this day with thousands of rounds through it. It's never been to a gunsmith, and it's seen some hard hunts. Definitely worth the money IMHO.

Remington 700 is a Remington 700 regardless the letters they stick on the end.  ADL, BDL, CDL, SPS, etc.  The barreled actions are all put together using the same quality materials and the same gunsmithing practices.  The SPS's use a cheap stock and on some rifles that makes a difference, some it does not.  The SPS also uses a much less expensive blueing method that needs a bit more TLC to stay rust-free.  When you step up to a BDL or CDL you're getting a better stock and a better finish but the accuracy potential remains the same, and that is excellent with most of them.  To really step up your accuracy potential one needs to then step up to one of Remington's custom shop offerings.  Better barrels (used to be Hart, I've no idea what they are now), better stocks (used to be McMillan, I believe they're Bell and Carlson Medalist currently), the actions are still base 700's but they've been blueprinted as have the barrels and everything made to fit just right.  Most of that is work done by hand, one at a time, and that's why they cost so much more.

I think I have some oceanfront property in Bozeman Id like to sell you..
LOL

Youd be happy with how my Hawkeye 300 win is shooting.
... obviously 3 shot groups are good for a general area on the paper--- but 5 or 10 shot groups will tell the true story on load stability...
BUT, my 300 win pulled a .736in group @ 100 including cold bore shot... IF I wouldve foulded the barrel--- Im 100% certain it wouldve been around .2 in.
Dang blasted  rifle LOVES RL22 and a 150 TTSX... Finally got off my duff and chronod this last weekend.... 3320 out of the pipe.

If it likes 150s I'm betting 168s would fly.  You have much more betterest BC with the 168s if that sort of thing tickles your fancy.

What? You don't think my "love" for Slavages is sincere?

That rifle--- Id humbly disagree.
That is a FUSSY rifle.
Ive tried countless 165 combinations--- they PATTERN--- they don't group....
I simply don't consider anything over  1.5 to to usable.
Now-- whats odd... is on the other side of the spectrum..
It LOVES 180 Hornadys and 200 grain Speer hotcores.... both with a top charge of Retumbo.

As far as Savage rifles go..... They are bareable starter rifles or things to stick under a tire to get traction.... outside of that, I wouldnt waste my money on one.

think the name says it all.Savage, made in the jungle by savages using rocks for smithing tools. The 700 action is without a doubt one of the solidest most reliable ever made and even some military specialty rifles use it.I believe the new standard issue long range sniper is patterned on the 700.Pardon me if I am wrong. On the other hand Savages can't be beat for bashing giant eels heads in.

I know the Corps. has always used the 700 actions in our M40 series.

I once poked a deer's eye out with the barrel of a Savage....it barely worked to do that.

I will say it again, the savages make great snow fence posts.  Positioned correctly, closing the bolt will stretch the fence tight..

You're best bet is to find someone who knows how to adjust them and have them teach you.  Once you know how they're very easy, unless you have to take them apart to "stone" surfaces it's about a 15min operation from disassembly to reassembly.  They're also very easy to make very dangerous if you're not careful, slam-fires being your biggest concern.  Slam-fires happen when you cam the bolt down, don't have enough sear engagement and the sear lets go, firing the rifle without you ever actually touching the trigger and it's a fine line indeed.  If what I say makes you nervous about doing your own, it should.  If what I've said doesn't make you nervous about doing your own unsupervised, it really ought to.
