You don't save near as much money on shotgun shells as you do with rifle.  Over 10 years ago I could reload my trap shells for about 55-60% of what new shells cost, but the cost of components has gone up so much it's not as cost effective any more.  I save over 50% on rifle and have much better accuracy, but with shotgun shells I just watch for the best sale prices now.

Some quick calculations.  Assuming you already own the hulls and equipment, a guy could load 1.25oz lead field loads for roughly $6.50-$7/box.  That's $40/25# of shot, $18/1# powder, $8/1bag wads, $3/100 primers.  I look the pricing up on one of the bulk websites and figured out $6.26/25rnd box.  If a guy is buying local for say 200-300 shells at a time, it'll be closer to that $7/box range.  Pretty sure Scheels ran a promo Fiocchi load @ $8.99 this fall, so, you gotta figure out if $2/box savings is worth the time it takes to load them.

IMO, lately a bigger incentive to load your own, whether it's rifle, pistol, or shotgun, is the ability to have what you want, when you want it.  Work up a load that works well for you and then as funds and availability allow, try and get maybe 1-2 seasons ahead of your needs.
