It's not the flowers... it was the produce. When deer eat what we eat there's a conflict. No dead deer yet, but one of these days. Good to hear you got some access. 45 minutes sucks though.

No - I couldn't believe no eyes, sauger, northern - which usually make their appearance in October. That's what I was fishing for. The cats were wacking in just a minute or two so I think the game fish were outgunned. The cats wanted it NOW... and they were all footballs and in best condition I've ever seen.

Yeah, I know - they're game fish and someone would call me on that one.

I've just been catching them so long (lived in and fished for catfish in Fargo since 1987) I consider them in their own bracket in a way - not trash - but not gamefish in the "eating" sense.

What are you gonna do with all those frogs? How you keeping them?

not good eating? I would take a 20 or so inch cat over almost anything else anyday, especialy if it is from the garrison dam tailrace. how do you cook them? if they have a muddy taste, try removing any large blood vessles you find, the cats in the red have alot of iron in them, and it collects in the veins.

I've tried em a dozen different ways, even smoking. And I'm no slouch when it comes to food prep. They are simply too fishy when I have as much perch, crappie, eyes, gills to eat anyway. I like some of the catfish they prepare down south, but Red River cats seem oily/fishy to me. To each his own I guess.

Maybe I should try that wacky Mountain Dew recipe?

the only way I eat fish period is shore lunch and the fry daddy, so all fish will taste the same, and I like the fishy taste. at camp, some even said that catfish and bullheads taste like mud because they eat mud.. this was lower lake sakakawea, so I should not have suprised that a full half the camp said that walleye is they only fish in ND that is edible.one of the guys who was about 60 took one nasty look at a white bass he was supposed to clean, and threw it away, so after I yelled at him a few times for not being a good sportsman and being wastefull, he cleaned it very reluctantly. a real sportsman is not so picky that they won't even clean fish that don't taste good in their opinion. I'm fine with people not liking certain fish as long as they don't waste them, carp are the only exeption.

I was out last night on the river and noticed frogs just leaping into the river.  Must be starting the migration.  I need to catch and freeze some for bait.  As for eating Catfish - if they are cleaned up nicely - no dark red or brown on them at all they fry up nice.  If you think it's fishy after that's been done  it could be either too thick of a piece of fish  compared to your breading or it maybe isn't done enough.  I had Prime Cut smoke it for me one time and used it in a dip.  That was good as well.  Each person will have their own tastes though.  I still prefer non-whiskered fish but won't pass it up occasionally.

A recipe that everyone seems to like at my house is to cook catfish filets at 350 till cooked through, boil some potatoes, then mash the potatos and mash the fish, mix the fish and potatoes together in equal parts. For every two cups of the mixture add a raw egg, then form balls about the size of ping pong balls and deep fry them until there golden.

Hmmmm Jimmy, I just might give that one a whirl.

I've given cats an honest attempt, even focussing on little 1.5-3 lb cats in cold water, carefully removing lateral line and other "red meat"... Still tastes fishy/oily. I think it's the fish they are eating that makes them taste that way. It's still fun to catch and release though, they fight so well.

Hey Jimmy, just tried Cajun and Morel/Truffle perch balls.
Outstanding!
Panko breadcrumbs, blue cheese or creamy French dip... O M G.
Thanks!
