I've heard of people using gummy worms, marshmallows, corn, just about everything you can imagine. A good rule of thumb for ND and MN waters is if it (the bait) swims naturally in the water (suckers, creek chubs, goldeye, frogs, etc) it's going to be the best bait.

In the south, stink baits, artificials, chicken liver, dough balls, cheese baits, etc work very well for guys in the stock ponds and reservoirs.

Stick with what works buddy, you won't regret it. It should be a confidence bait for you (sucker, goldeye, and frogs........the Holy Trinity of the Red River)

I've caught them on all of the above, so yes they will work. Although, I can't say I've ever combined all of them. Nor would I recommend relying on them and putting them on the hook first.

I usually fish with two rods, a lot of times I get a little bored so I throw out what I have on hand which is often times candy. I just like adding to my list of odd things I catch them on. But as Josh said above... the best baits are definitely native creatures of the Red.

I've also had luck buying cheap meat (on clearance) such as round of eye and infusing them with a couple different stink baits when the normal baits aren't producing. They don't hit it fast and furious, but on a slow day I can usually get one or two big ones on it.
