Red River in Fargo is flooding again close to moderate stages (24.9 ft by tomorrow). My regular places have have slowed down tremendously. Wait till end of July hopefully water will be down to manageable 18ft.

The spawn is winding down fast and the fish are hungry. The pattern has changed considerably the past few days from a slow slack water bite to fast water right in the channel. The bait really doesn't matter but due to ease of access suckers were our bait of choice. Most spots took 12-18 minutes to get the fish to bite but when they did man did they slam it. With the hot weather and the stable water the bite will only continue to get better.

See the river level is dropping at Drayton. Has anyone been able to fish the area yet. Planning a trip to Drayton in a couple weeks, can anyone tell me what is a good river level to start fishing the area. Afraid of driving 500 miles and have the river to high. Typicallg go every year about the end of July but do not remember what the normal level should be to fish below the Drayton Dam. Appreciate any input, Thanks Jamie.

Catfishing is picking up and last evening was a great outing! I'm finding the vast majority of bigger fish on current breaks in 18 feet. Goldeye is out-producing sucker for me, maybe 10 to 1! Fresh bloody cuts (steaks) of goldeye and/or mooneye is the ticket. Frogs didn't get much last evening, mostly smaller fish.

With the river level holding steady, expect good things in the near future.

I should also add that the night bite is officially ON! I got back to the boat ramp at midnight.

Good luck!

I went out on Friday from 1-3pm at the North Dam.  I used fatheads with a floating jig head and never got a bite.  My other line was a orange and black rooster tail smaller spinning lure(LOL).  I casted with it a few times it also had a minnow hooked threw the mouth.  Then I just  let it sit 3 feet from shore and was messing around with my tackle box.  All of the sudden I see my line start moving and I set the hook to find my first river cat of 2011.  It was on my 10lb suffix line walleye rod.  Needless to say I got dominated and it was a ten minute battle before I was able to drag a 7.5 LB Cat in without a net I left at the lakes(LOL).  It was a  slow day but I was jacked up to get into a cat.  The water is still very high but the shoreline is fairly dry .  Gl everyone and don't be afraid to try new things alla rooster tail(LOL)

Well,......it was a good day of fishing with not the greatest action in the boat. No real pattern to speak of. The best action was in slack water in around 20 feet. Goldeye outproduced sucker by far. With the rivel level finally dropping, I'm expecting some great fishing within a week.

Good luck!

The river at Drayton is way too high for any kind of fishing. It just about got back in the banks for the first time this year a couple weeks ago but then it rained and up it came again. For about a week there were a lot of big fish caught though. Will be at least a couple weeks before it's fishable again, with no rain that is....

Anybody have any info on the shore conditions in Drayton?  I am assuming the water is still too high, but just wanted to check.  Thanks for any input.

Made it out for a bit last night.  Fished #6 circle hook, 3oz weight and leech combo near shore in fast moving water.  Had a few hits but only one that took it.  It was a 18lb cat.  Shorelines are muddy but are drying up nicely.
